Are they really raw? You know, the kind you get in bulk bags at the Mexican grocery? I love them- peel the shells & strings from the pods & suck the flesh away from the seeds- it's sooo sour, but in a really good way! Please tell me they're raw!! Thanks!
I can't tell you if they are raw or not, perhaps the store owner could ? But, I am looking for tamarind paste for a dipping sauce recipe and boy! is it hard to find! It is an awesome food isn't it!!!

I would think they would be, but I couldn't say for sure. I know they sell them at Glaser's a raw food market in Miami.

Why wouldn't they be raw????? That is how they grow on the tree. ;)
And if you can buy the shelled tamarind, you can make your own paste!
They may not be raw because, as we now some companies feel the need to roast, toast, coat or do other things to foods that are perfectly good in their natural state.
I looked inio making the paste myself, it is apparently quiet a chore, but I can't even locate pods locally and don't trust buying them online. One day i'll come across them.

Okay, I guess I've never purchased tamarind. I pick them off a tree, so.... I know they are al-natural.
However, if they are still in their shell I would imagine they are raw. It's when they de-shell them that you might run into more problems.
