I'm just back from Schall Adams' Level 1 course -- we made the raviolis and they turned out super! I'm just making them here and the turnip/pasta wrapper tastes bitter -- I sliced them really thin, BUT they have been in the fridge for awhile. Could that be the reason?

Actually I was trying to make a mac n' cheese with the rolled turnips as the mac and RP's cheese sauce as the cheese. Anyone else ever try this?

I am not super fond of the turnips as pasta so we make noodles with Parsnips shaved with a potato peeler. It worked great and since it "looked" like real noodles, the kids (7, 5 and 3 years old) ate it just fine and didn't bat an eye. We used a pumpkin seed pesto (from Green Chefs) instead of the "cheese" though.

Hello rawhomeschoolmom!

I've made the ravioli recipe before and used a saladacco to slice the turnips. It turns out really thin and the recipe is fabulous! I'm not too fond of turnips either, so using the saladacoo makes it thin enough so it's not overpowering. HTH!

BTW...I'm a homeschooling mom too! I've been homeschooling from the beginning but officially for 2 years to our 7yo son. How about you?? :)

Blessings to you!
Jocelyn

Hi!

I don't have a saldacco and I was not able to slice the turnips thin enough so mine also tasted bitter and I had to throw them out. The next time I made the ravioli I used zuchinni for the pasta and it was yummy! Then I took the ravioli, placed them in the dehydrator, put sauce over them and "baked" them for about 5 hours at 105. They were soooooooo good this way! That is how I will do it now. Yum, yum, yummy!

I also homeschool. My daughter is 9 and just finishing up 4th grade. Next year our two oldest boys (who will be 5 and 6) will be starting homeschooling kindergarten, so life will definately get more interesting eh? Thus far I've had it easy! :)

the turnip slices MUST be incredibly thin, thin enough to read through or they are bitter, YIKES!!!

also, I think Rawkinlocs has used yams and said they were good for this. they are alot sweeter for sure.

I also "bake" mine covered in sauce in the dehydrator, makes them super yummy.

Hi everybody,

Thanks so much for all the advice! I'll try the recipe again when I can actually find some pine nuts ... I ended up eating a rye bagel with RP's cheese sauce over it, warmed in the dehydrator ... yum just like Welsh rarebit! I'll have to try it with yams too.

Jocelyn and MM5, your recipes and pictures are sooo incredible!! My ds is 9 and we've been homeschooling him for 3 years now. Do you use any particular curriculum or method? We've been using classical/The Well Trained Mind. If you ever want to e-mail me about homeschooling, its capowers@cfl.rr.com

RP, Good Luck on your trip to the B&B -- I KNOW you can stay raw with all the yummy food you're taking with you; I was salivating when I read your list! ... I know you are a fantastic raw chef; your recipes are so incredible!! (Although I have to admit, I started getting cooked cravings myself when you were describing the SAD food you're going to be surrounded with, LOL!) but even if you don't, we are all here when you get back, either way!! And I think your new quote about getting to eat raw, not having to eat raw, is the best! I keep repeating it to myself!!

You all are the best; I have never felt so at home and all your support is keeping me going. In fact, not that I want anyone to go off and eat cooked, but at least I know that I'm not the only person who has cravings and gets tempted and cheats every once in awhile. I checked out another raw chat awhile back, don't remember the name, but I only lasted a few minutes -- nearly everybody there was mean and nasty, no other way to put it.

I found fresh corn at the store today -- Alissa's enchiladas are on the menu for dinner tomorrow night! I just finished shaving the cobs and putting the corn in the freezer.

Speaking of my ds, he's throwing a fit because he doesn't want to take a bath ... more later!! :)
