Aaarrghhh! Help me! This is day 15. The first week I lost about 8 pounds, but now I'm gaining some of it back!
Is this normal???
In hindsight I should have posted my meals in my journal, but I'm not eating lots of nuts/seeds. What nuts I have eaten this week have been in the date nut torte (still have half), corn chowder (still have most of that), tahini in hummus (still have lots of that), and part of the blueberry pie much earlier this week.
I routinely have fruit or smoothies for breakfast and have been eating the chili mostly this week, plus the nori rolls and that's about it. I've had oranges, grapefruits, bananas, pineapple, mango, clementines, apples.... and I'm eating less quantities of food than before raw....what's going on??

I know, personally, that my weight fluctuates daily. Maybe some of what you lost at first was water weight, and that will definitely fluctuate day to day. Just keep doing what you know is right, and all else will eventually fall into place.

My weight really shoots up in cycles. Then goes back down. Its all apart of the process of the body flushing out toxins is what I believe. Stay the course, exercise regularly and the weight will fluctuate but at lower and lower levels as you are shedding toxins from the whole system.
Just my two cents :)
Peace.

Thanks guys, I'm certainly not going to quit because of all the other things I've seen happening in such a short period of time. It's just frustrating when people talk about how quickly they lost--I want to be one of them, too (whine whine :p )
Actually, I think I'm hitting my first detox. I'm getting cold-like sympotms this morning--coughing, sneezing, runny nose--so we'll see how this goes. Out, out darn toxins!!

Maybe there's a possibility it's where you are in your monthly cycle. A woman can gain upwards of five pounds each month just before she start. Not fun, but if that's what it is, you should be plesantly surprised in a week or so.
Just a thought.

THROW OUT THE SCALE!!!!
I agree with everyone else... It's normal. At least it's happened for me. I love this quote... "Scales lie; jeans don't". I keep a tape measure handy and measure my hips. I've lost 3 more inches off my hips since I last posted my stats but very little weight. Keep it up! It will come off!
Isn't it great to have people to help us through this?? :)

I gained 3 punds my first week and felt pretty bummed about it - and I was told to get rid of the scale - so I don't use it anymore. They told me it's a process and everyone is different. I personally decided not to weigh myself - and to just remember that this is a long term health thing - with a benefit of losing weight. I want to lose weight so bad - and obsess about it. SO I'm learning to just be nice to myself and not compare.
Hope you feel better and treat yourself nice during this phase!!

Oh, I am. I'm not beating myself up. And what's really another testimony to eating raw is that I'm not depressed about this, whereas normally I would be. Those feelings just aren't there. It's a little frustrating, sure, but not depressing. I'm amazed that foods have that much control over emotions.
Thanks everyone! You're why I love this place :)
I've noticed since I've been eating raw for the last 2 weeks (the beginning of my 3rd weel) my stomach never appears to be flat anymore. Before, when I was eating a lot of cooked meats etc. my stomach always was flat. I'm trying this lifestyle for many reasons. I definitly feel better. But have never been this 'bloated' in the past. I eat lot of raw, fresh veggies and fruit. I germinate my nuts. I eat raw cheeses. I use raw honey and cider vinegar and cold pressed olive oils as well as Udo oil, all the stuff described in the book I purchased 'Eating in the Raw", by Caro Alt. Can you give me some insight. I don't want to stop but don't like way my stomach has been looking.
Carol Alt's book was good to read if your starting out 'raw' but I'd like to jump in and suggest http://www.alissacohen.com/ Alissa's book, it will inspire you further. The more you read the more familiar you will be with raw.
Here is a discussion about Carol Alt's book

Thanks, SamL, I'll look into Alissa's book and website.

My partner and I started a whole foods eating plan at the 1st of the year and we vowed not to weigh for a month or two. I have about 75 lbs to lose. I cheated and found I'd lost 6.5 lbs in just under 3 weeks. I agree with throwing out the scale. Maybe weighing once a month or so, but mostly going on getting back into my clothes. Sheesh, I gained 40 lbs over the summer. Sugar, carbs, processed garbage. Really, we're eating an almost entirely raw diet as it is. And we have dairy goats, so our milk and yogurt is fresh off the goat. Yum! No grains at all right now, no sugars, or processed foods.
I have found that I have to easy does it on the fruit to a certain extent. I eat it in my smoothies and then an apple or a banana with almond butter for dessert. I LOVE fruit, but the high GI ones seem to mess with my insulin resistance or something. I do cherries and berries quite well.
I will say this: I have felt like absolute POOP coming off sugar and carbs, SedonaSun. I've been reading on Dr. Bass' site that this is very normal though. I took two 4 hour naps this past weekend. I honestly thought I was "ILL". Well, in a sense, I am, but getting well. Perpetual headache and sniffles, too. These too shall pass. I hope!
