Well, I started inviting my friends and I now have a raw food potluck this coming Sunday! I'm so excited. I have 28 adults and 13 children! I am praying for nice weather so we can picnic on the lawn. Oy! The fun part is that the group, while all are close friends, is very diverse in eating habits. But everyone is familiar with raw food so it should be really entertaining.
I'm supplying all the necessary eating supplies and beverages. But I thought I'd provide one dish, too. With so many people, I thought about buying whole watermelons, cracking them open and letting people dig in! But I'd like to hear if you have any other ideas? It has to be simple since I'm the host. Oh, and the beverages will be sun teas.
Thanks!

We always do what ever is growing in the gardens at the time, we just take a big basket, walk through the gardens, and the meadows and pick, then make a big salad, with some kind of olive oil/lemon juice/fresh herb dressing and we are set.
if it is fruit picking time, we make juice, but the herbal sun tea sounds good, you could make lemonaid too for the kids, that is always fun, or they could make it themselves,
also for the kids, dehydrated watermelon is exceptionally good, I call it bubble gum and they love it, any fruit leather too, they enjoy.
make sure to have plenty of napkins and we always write their names on their cups, so they can use them over again, same with forks, plates we allow them to toss, unless you get the cool wooden plates that you can wash, we've done this many times too.
wooden spoons and forks work well too

Oh how fun! And what a large group, wish I could just come right over and join all of you. I agree with simple the better for you as the host. Fresh fruit always goes over well and as Rawpriestess mentioned fruit leather is always a hit with kids and adults too. Do take pictures if you can so we can see all the fun dishes everyone brings and have a great time!

Watermelon fruit leather! I would've never thought of it. Love that idea. I hope I can find some good watermelon available to prepare it. Do you just blend the watermelon with water, spread and dehydrate??
I will take pictures.

RP you mentioned this in one of your earlier posts, "I call it bubble gum"
do you just dehydrate chunks of watermelon? Or do you blend it then do it? Joz

One dehydrated dish would be awesome, just to share the versatility of RAW.
Like some sort of cracker and a favorite nut butter. Watermelon always goes over well in a gathering too. What about smoothies for the kiddos, surely everyone doesn't drink tea.

i always thought she meant the watermelon was in chunks.
the fruit leather, here, she mentioned but i don't think she meant doing watermelon fruit leather. though, i wonder what that would taste like. blenderize watermelon and plop it on the teflex sheet and dehydrate. hmmm.
how long do you dehydrate your watermelon gum?
