I think it's rather well known that the majority of veg*ns are female, according to one survey I saw, 83% of all veg*ns in the US are female. Can anyone give me some suggestions of why this is? As a male, every veg*n circle (irl or online) that I am apart of, there are very few males and sometimes none at all. Are women more open to new things? Are they more compassionate? Less stubborn? I'd like to see a good discussion about this topic... so post away.
I can only speak for myself, but in my home my husband isn't worried at all about his health. I worry about the health of my family a lot, and often experience first hand what a day of high sugar, wheat, dairy does to the general mood in the house. It's in my best interest to provide more satisfying & nourishing foods if I want to have a calmer household.
I realise on a personal level I can cope better if I eat better, it's either intuitive or common sense, depending on who your talking to.
As a bonus, I look better, which is what women like, don't we all like to look good? I think we think about it more.
I don't know why these things don't interest my husband, he has a different agenda to me. I often ask him why when he eats, he's only concerned about pleasing his taste buds, the rest of his body doesn't get a look in.
I'm working on him ;)
As I said before, this is only my situation.

My situation is the same as Sams'. I'm concerned about my health and my appearance. My husband is not concerned about either.
And as for all of your questions: Are women more open to new things? Are they more compassionate? Less stubborn? Yes on all counts! LOL.
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure Curtis, MonkeyBoy, Todd and the rest of othe guys will be glad you're here.

I'd like to contribute to this thread a bit (although it's kinda placed in the wrong area - should be "Other Topics" - Alissa or the Admin will probably move it since I don't have that ability to do so).
I have noticed just in life with no statistics that men don't go to the doctor nearly as much as women (those who are still into doctors, etc.); men tend to not really care much about overall health as much as women; if you go to church, churches are almost ALWAYS full of women with a sprinkling of men here and there (sorta).
Same with these health/diet-related websites. Poor Monkeyboy (another one of our male members) was wondering where all the men are not too long ago. Even a lot of the ones who are members here, they don't post as much as we do and some have kinda stopped posting altogether (maybe be-CAUSE there are so many women).
But it is an interesting thing!

Another factor may be the fact that women tend to be more liberal, socially and politically. Anyway, it is rather nice being around all these lovely ladies... another benefit of veg*nism! :D

Interesting observation.....never thought about til now.
Well here in the Northwest, I run into alot of males who are vegan--as far as on the boards and such, I believe that it is more likely that women tend to need "emotional" support (my personal opinion)--so we talk about it--it reminds me of the saying "women go to the bathroom in packs".........in my experience, men pretty much just go after what they are doing and don't feel a real need to discuss it. Maybe there are "in the closet" veganmales out there. :p
Somehow, I dont' think you mind being outnumbered!!! ;)
luv,
linda
