Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the raw world, and I've got a question about olives? Would the olives in the olive bars at the grocery stores be raw? I highly doubt it, but I wasn't sure.

Hi VeggieRat, I wanted to welcome you to the board, however I can't really answer your question but i would think no the olives aren't raw. You should do a search here online put in raw olives and see what comes up. Also look in Alissas store here too she sells olives. Again Welcome nice to have you here. Take care

Veggie, the best thing to do is to ask your grocer who is in charge of the olive bar.
I know that the oil cured olives are almost always raw, as are the salt cured. They are not in a brine. They are dry and wrinkled and very strong tasting. I love them because you don't need many on a pizza, for example, to get the taste.
Anyway.. ask at the market. They should know.

Welcome veggierat to the forum,
where we live there is a huge olive bar, and I asked the deli manager about the olives, if they were raw, etc, he brought me out this huge barrel that they come in, and by george, they are raw, so now, I can buy an entire barrel if I want, or smaller barrels, which is how I usually buy them, or I can just mix and match, they come straight from Greece or Italy, or Portugal, and they are delicious.
I like many different kinds and eat them most days, usually the black ones.
but sometimes the brown, or beigh not too often the green though.
anway, just ask, you might be surprised.

RawPriestess, are these brined olives? If so, I'm very excited! I love olives and really miss the brined ones.

Hey everyone,
Thanks! Duh, I didn't ever think to ask at the grocery store. Sometimes, I wonder how I make it? That is a smart and sensible thing to do! Thanks! ;)

RawPriestess, what store do you get your olives from? I live very close to you and didn't know there was a good source for raw olives here.
