I'm hoping this will be a good investment!
Apart from smoothies, what else can I use it for? :)
I'm thinking about ordering a dehydrator as well... Seeing as it's moving into winter here... Some more dense and warmed food would be nice!

You can:
Grind flax seeds or grains into flour
Make nut milks
Make smooth and creamy nut cheeze sauces
Make raw soups (they'll be nice a warm for the winter months you spoke of!)
Make salad dressings
Make smooth chocolate pudding (there are some "KILLER" recipes here and it's delicious!)
Make shakes
Crush ice or make icy drinks or slushies
That's what's off the top of my head of what I use mine for! I'm sure I'm forgetting something, though :) I LOVE mine!

Congrats Coco!
What Rawkinlocs said... I also use mine instead of a juicer sometimes. For stuff like watermelon that has a very high water content, you vitamix-it-up and it's just like juice, and you get more volume out of it. ;) What I really like about it too, is that when you make a smoothie, you can put the whole orange in, seeds and all because they're good for you, and get the benefits of the whole fruit, and it blends it so well you forget the seeds were there.
Rawkinlocs, do you have to have the dry container to do just nuts and make nut butters and things of that nature? I haven't tried that yet... I've made nut milks and stuff, since I'm adding water, but I wasn't sure about nut butters...

Rawfoodiemom,
No, I have the 4500 model with just the one container. I've not tried to make nut butter in that, but have successfully ground flax seeds and oats to flour in it!
One of the things I forgot to mention is that I use it as a "juicer" too....I throw in any greens, fruit, celery, etc. I want with a little water, blend, and strain in a nut milk (rather, paint strainer) bag and there's my juice!

Cool! That's sooooo great to know. I've been tentative to try it because I thought you needed the dry container and I didn't want to waste anything. That's great. I've been doing flax in the coffee grinder, but you can't fit much in it, lol. I'm thankful for this thread. :) Oat flour is next, can't wait to try it.

chop hard veggies and cabbage in less than 3 seconds, this is how you do it.
place 1/4 head of cabbage in the Vita Mix, then cover with water, turn on for 1 to 3 seconds, pour off water, you now have the best chopped cabbage,
to do any other veggie, do the same, if using a carrot or celery, cut into about 1 inch pieces.
I make frosting, sauces, dips, spreads, nut pate's cream, milks, ice creams, mayonaise, ketchup, mustard, breads, cakes, and pies.
I grind flours, make flax meal, grind nuts, etc.
where do you all buy your vita-mix's from and roughly how much do they cost?
