I used to eat salmon and loved it.
I have been a raw vegan for over a year.
Dr. said I should be taking fish oil for my sensitive dry skin and I have been battling it every inch of the way.
I went shopping where they have Alaska wild Salmon caught that day. It looked oh, soooooo gooooddd. I almost broke down and bought it for our BBQ reunion tomorrow. I swear, I have NEVER had such a craving for ANY food like I did yestruday seeing that fish, especially after what my Dr. said and all the tremendous suffering I have gone through with my poor skin. It has gotten so much worse since I stopped eating salmon a year ago.
Don't know what prompted me to keep on walking, but I DID!! I didn't give in to temptation. The thing is I am still thinking about how delicious it looked on the BBQ last year, and I am really really REALLY troubled right now. It would be so good for my skin condition I guess, oh, I don't know what to do....
I hope you can convince me why NOT to have the salmon, and maybe an alternative that would be equal nutritionally to the fish??
I don't have much time. Tomorrow is the BBQ and the store is open 24/7/.
thanks for the conern and help,
Blessings

For the skin
supplement with flax and vitamin E and topical coconut oil
If it doesn't have to be 100% organic and raw then go to "my website" listed in the signature line.
For the taste buds
make some sort of sprout and mushroom loaf using lemon and herb seasonings , lots of garllic a little marjoram and cajun seasoning to taste
Good Luck

GreenLife, like LifeAGift said, flax. Flax has tons more Omega Fatty acids than fish.... suprising isn't it. General society and the government are always trying to push fish (or some kind of animal product) on us, ignoring the fact that there is nearly always a vegetable, green leaf or fruit, seed, nut or fruit that can give us MORE than the animal product every could.
Vitamin A and Primrose oil (which you can take in caplets if you want or topically) are also commonly known to help skin isses.
Good job on walking past the Fish Counter... Way to go!

I agree with the vegan-sourced DHA, you can get OMEGA ZEN 3 (http://www.nutru.com/our_products/omega-zen-3.htm), DHA, if ground flax seeds every day aren't for you.
Also, if the mercury levels, bacteria and other negative health aspects of fish don't bother you, then perhaps looking at it from a compassionate point of view (http://www.fishinghurts.com/) will help?

Jaurequi, Thanks alot for the link and the advice. Maybe I'll try the Omega Zen. I have heard about that, too.
Theresaann, Thank you. I have actually taken hemp seeds before. Do you know if they are as nutricious as the fish oil?
Dreamrawalwayz, thank you. This is actually what I do everyday, in addition to a little coconut oil. It helps, but the exzema gets really bad even with the olive oil, emu oil, coconut oil, and flax oils I apply on my skin regularily.
You've ALL helped me alot. so, hemp seeds, Omega and flax. Do I take them together or what?

Ditto the olive oil suggestion. I use this on my scalp when hair is damp.
I've also had hubby massage me with olive oil while skin was damp. Heavy oils rub in better after a hot shower instead of direct to dry skin. The "softness" effect seems to last longer to. :o

If you don't wanna try the omega zen 3 there is also a product by Barlean's called: Omega Twin / Omega Twin - Lignan, Flax/Borage Combination.
It is suppost to have the right balance of 3/6/9's.
You can get it at your local health food store.

The fish craving could be a detox thing. I know that one time I was detoxing, and I had a fish taste in my mouth. Shazzie talks about in her journal that she tasted turkey when she was detoxing: http://www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/)
I think when you are detoxing and that old toxic food in flowing in your bloodstream because of being detoxed out, it can make you crave/or taste it. I think rawpriestess was saying that when she detoxes she craves meat. She said she has been a vegetarian forever.

My advice for nourishing your skin from the inside out is to eat a lot of bananas and avocados. I have extremely dry skin. My heals were cracking pretty badly before I went raw. Whenever my skin gets dry, I just eat bananas and avocados. Seems to do the trick everytime. Makes my skin very soft and smooth.
