Haven't tried it yet but just a word of caution. When purchasing grapes, make sure they are organic. I have heard that grapes are one of the fruits highest in pesticides :( So the same is true with buying raisins.

When I got into a juicing phase before I started eating raw, I love, love, LOVED putting a bunch of grapes and a couple apples into the juicer. They are SO good together.

And by the way, I've never liked bottled apple juice, nor grape juice.

thanks to all -- i'll give all these combos a try. i got some beautiful black grapes at the market. and i agree, organic is essential with grapes!
any other ideas for grape use are welcome, too!
maybe a raw grape jam/jelly for nut butter & jelly sandwiches or cookis?
many blessings to all!

Just don't overdo it on apples or grapes in smoothies - if you do, you may experience severe flatulence, on account of the rapid fermentation these fruits are apt to give rise to, when blended. :o

Hi Arky -

why do these give rise to flatulence when blended and not when eaten?

Aren't seedless grapes GENETICALLY MODIFIED?!?!?!

I just got back from taking the Level 1 Certification class with Schall Adams in Tampa -- she made us a delicious smoothie with spinach, water, banana and grapes. It was so sweet and good -- you couldn't taste the spinach at all. She used organic red grapes.

Seedless grapes are hybridized (not necessarily GM).

i like the globe grapes.. they have seeds and are sweeter.. and the pesticides add that extra bite that I just love so much! :D

Hi Arky -

They have a tendency to ferment very rapidly when their transit in the gut is slowed, which can occur when mixed with other foods which take a little longer to digest - such as greens. It's not that greens take a particularly long time to digest, it's just a relative thing. Dr. Nish Joshi is just one of many, many naturopaths who acknowledge that the addition of certain fruits to smoothies is less than ideal.

Hey, don't let me stop you livening up your mother-in-law's birthday party, codajess, I'd hate to be responsible for putting a downer on that! ;) :D

I have experienced that flatulence, especially after adding apples and grapes to my kale/celery/parsley smoothies.

Thankfully I was home alone, or it may have been a bit embarrassing!

No problems, on the other hand, with oranges, mangoes, bananas, pineapple or berries. Yet. <---or am I just lucky?
