I was told by my doctor that i was drinking to much water (that would be 1 gallon to 1 and a half gallons a day). And that i should drink no more than a half gallon a day.He told me that by drinking to much water you can actually dround your own body to death. Now he has me scared to drink alot even though my body wants and craves it.
Has anyone else ever been told this before?

Yes too much of anything, even something good, can be a bad thing.

I had the same thing happen to me! I was and still am drinking about 1-2 gallons a day, a docter told me it was to much and to drink 8 glasses a day but I don't feel right without so much. Is it really to much?

I knew someone who died from drinking to much, but I think there was more to the story and I can't remember what. Been a long time ago.

Do you think it causes to much stress on the body? (Hey maybe that's another raeson for my hair falling out)?

Too much water causes you to wash nutrients from your body.

Meals should be taken without beverage. Have it before or after, but leave the digestive process and juices to their own work. Beverages during eating only bog the digestive process down.

Too much water messes up the electrolyte balance in your body. That's why athletes usually drink something like gatorade during marathons and other sporting events rather than just water. Too much fluids in general can cause excess strain on your kidneys.

Try cutting back on your water intake gradually. Replace some of your water with juicy fruits... that way you get both water and other nutrients.

My dr said that although "They" say 64 oz is good, that 128 oz (a gallon) is ideal. I asked if I could drink too much water, or if it made a difference if i drank a lot at one time, and not a lot later on; should it be spread out over time. She said it didn't matter, water intake is water intake.

I drink about a gallon a day and I really need it. I work out hard and sweat a lot plus I live in FL so I sweat even more because of that! You can drink too much, but your body knows what it needs and I really try to follow my intuition about those matters. If your body doesn't need water, it's not going to signal thirst. Before there were doctors and nutritionists telling us how much to drink, we had to rely on our own intuition.

There is such a thing as water poisoning.

I agree with Brianna; listen to your body because everyone is different. For most of my life, I drink a about a gallon of water. My mom has always worried that it was too much and asked doctors about it. All the doctors say it was too much. So, last year, I listened to my mom and drank less (a little over half a gallon). I didn't feel good and my urine was very yellow all the time. I believe my body needs more water because my mom only drinks a few cups of water a day, and her urine is always very light colored.

I went to the Optimum Health Institue in San Diego they say to take your weight and divide in in half and thats how many ounces you need to drink a day.

I drink 2-3 liters a day, but my dad gets "drunk" if he drinks even just 8 cups. He says he gets dizzy and goofy. Hmmm.

I did have that happen to me too....I drank 1.5 gallons a day and did not realize it was more harmful and sending me signals that I was missing a nutrient or two.

BUT when i went from 90-100% RAW 3 months ago--Now i naturally drink 3/4th of a gallon a day--depending on the weather and my exercise etc. I also consume green juices-16oz. day. But for me when i was not all raw my body seems to be dying for nutrients and I tended to drown it with water.

I've actually suffered from water poisoning, not so fun.

I've found that since being 100% & adding a bit of celtic salt to the water cuts down on the amount of water I drink. I also try and drink a portion of my liquid in green juice instead of water.

I'm the opposite! Since I've been raw, I drink wayyy less. I think it's because of my smoothies and juices that I drink instead. I maybe drink two to four glasses of plain water a day, but that may be right for me since I only weigh 115. I do know one thing, the body holds onto water better if there is glucose and sodium involved. That is why fruit is so hydrating, because of the mineral and glucose content. I usually make lemonade or limeade because it is a great hydrator. It can take the place of rehydrating commercial drinks if you a pinch of salt. I use maple syrup or sucanat (unrefined dehydrated cane juice) for sweetening it.

Hyponutremia is a serious and even fatal condition. It is basically water intoxication and oftentimes happens with inexperienced / slower endurance athletes in road races, etc... If you truly listen to your bodies' thirst signals you will drink when you need to. As an athlete I've rehydrated too quickly. You'll feel a dizziness/ lightheadedness when you've had too much + feel a little nauseous :( ....But if you FEEL thirsty, drink. But as someone else said, not during meals as it interferes with digestion...Could you be eating too many dehydrated items that are causing you to be thirstier? Another solution would be to create your own electrolite beverage I juice celery, with other things because it's chock full of electrolites....sounds like you're out of balance for some reason....Good luck!
