I just completed a 40-day juice detox/fast. I kept a journal/blog at http://curezone.com/blogs/f.asp?f=682
I wrote in daily about what happened. Sometimes I got super wordy and introspective, so you will have to excuse that.
I would have written a journal here, but I didn't know about the raw lifestyle until I was halfway through.
Hope it helps!

I'm kind of interested in joining you folks. I started Nature's Secret 5 day ultimate fasting cleanse. I got through 48 hours. I'm ok as long as I can rest a lot and sleep. That first day I had off, and I was fine; but that 2nd day when I had to work, it EXHAUSTED me. A couple hours after I got to work, I was absolutely drained, foggy-headed, shaky, I couldn't focus. I ate a pear before driving home from work (I have over an hour drive from work to home.)
Are you doing a water fast? With that cleansing kit, it said I could juice. I didn't, and i'm sure that was my mistake. I can't do just water when I have to work. I'd be fine if I didn't.
I'm going to Florida with my mom June 9-14 (as a mother's day present for her, she chose disneyworld  ) and my skin has been acting up since last summer, breaking out, clogged pores, etc. And I can't seem to lose weight. I've been raw since May 7th. I feel better, but i'm not really looking better yet. I think I might join you folks in hopes to lose a little weight and hopefully clear my skin before going to the land of little clothing :p During the 48 hours I did fast my stomach flattened a bit, but now that I'm eating again, it's rounded back out :( SOOOO...i'll be looking forward to reading what you guys are doing on your fasts. :D

I just started picking up my weekly 24 hour fasts again. One thing I did was to make a chart, for every 2 hours to check off that I drank 8 oz of liquid. It really kept me from getting hunger pangs and I am sure it was very cleansing, but I was peeing like every 20 minutes.
I've been on lengthened fasts/cleanses before and I know the hunger pangs come and go, and usually are gone after day 3, but can get replaced by occasional weakness. What I did was have some honey when I felt that weakness, and drank a lot.
I'll be doing a 3 day fast this weekend coinciding with my lunar cycle, so I will check in on this thread periodically.
"Miracle of Fasting" by Paul Bragg is the best book IMO. However he was a puritan and only used water, some folks aren't quite ready for that intenseness - technically though it isn't called a fast if you use flavored liquids like juice, broth or MC. It's called a diet or a cleanse.

I usually drink 4 16-oz bottles while at work, plus however much I drink at home.
Drinking was not an issue. I had at least 7 bottles while at work on my 2nd day. The cleansing kit I got had supplements you take 3 times a day (for liver, colon, and some green supplements) and one of those psyllium fiber powders, too.
WHICH, by the way, I'm totally agreeing with those who were saying the whole mucoid plaque thing is bs. I used to think it was real, so I was pretty bummed when I did the MC at the end of 2004 and never got anything bad out...but now with this cleanse and the psyllium gunk, my um, stuff came out looking exactly like it does on those websites. It's the psyllium.
I digress...

Read your online journal! WOW! Impressed I am :)
One question: Did you juice your fruits/veggies or did you make smoothies with them?
Thanks, mel

I agree! I've looked at those pics and the "mucus" looks just like psyllim/flax/chia when it gets wet and mucilaginous. I've seen the same kind of stuff with my BMs the couple of times I've used metamucil.
Anyways! Back on topic... I'd love to try fasting, but I don't yet have a juicer.. :( Well, I guess that'll be one of the next things I'll have to buy, eh? I've tried water fasting, but haven't even been able to get through one day, so I think juice fasting is the route for me.

Thanks, Madmel!
I am so glad the blog can help someone. I juiced fruits and veggies. Smoothies were still a little too thick (for me) when shutting down the digestive system. If you would like, I kept a list of all of the juice "recipes" I loved and would be more than happy to share those with you all. I won't be able to get them until tonight, because they are on my refrigerator. By the way, from what I understand, juicing bananas slows down the detox process. I don't know why, but that's what I have read and heard, so I never used them. Could just be a rumor.
I am so happy you are all thinking about doing this. It has changed my life! And going raw afterwards only made sense to me. Good luck!

This weekend was crazy. However, just as I promised, here are my favorite juicing recipes. Please note, I am not good with food combining, so if you are, you may have some issues with a couple of my recipes. These just worked for me. Just use your best judgement!
3 oranges
1 lemon
1 ~1" ginger root
Soooooo good! This will wake you up and is crisp
___________________________
1/4 pineapple
2 oranges
1 red tangerine
1/2 sweet potato
This tastes and has the consistency of orange sherbert. I was skeptical using sweet potato, but it rocks!
_______________________________
3 pears
1 apple
1 cup of strawberries
Tastes like the juice used for slushies!
NOTE: Use pears at your own risk. If you use pears in your juice and think you have to...um...flatulate? after ~45 minutes, YOU DON'T. Do yourself a favor, and go ahead and go to the bathroom. Luckily I never had a problem, but I thought I would share the knowledge.
____________________________
1 grapefruit
1 orange
____________________________
1 lemon
1 orange
3 apples
3 pears
______________________________
1 orange
1 pear
1 apple
1 grapefruit
1 sweet potato
___________________________
1 pear
2 apples
1 cup strawberries
1 ginger
some broccoli
The ginger and apple cover the taste of broccoli!!! I would have never guessed it until I tried it. It's a great way to get veggies without the taste
____________________________
1 apple
1 orange
1 lemon
1 carrot
grapes
____________________________
2 apples
1 orange
2 carrots
rasberries
strawberries
___________________________
1/4 pineapple
1-2 apples
strawberries
ginger
This is soooo crisp, cool, and delicious! Great for a summer day!

Tips: Ginger is great to cover the taste of something you don't really want to taste such as veggies. You already read my pear warning.
Good luck! and enjoy! Fasting has changed my life!

Thanks redfizz! These are some delish juice recipes!
I agree with the smoothies - for me they are more like a real meal than like a juice. I had one smoothie during my fast (today is day 1 after the fast) and I had to thin it with twice the amount of water ending up with like 3 pints of juice that kept me going all day. Was delish though :) Pineapple, Orange, Lemon, Papaya and Watermelon. Very refreshing and good.

I hope that helps!

My favorite juice is celery, cucumber, pea green sprouts, and sunflower sprouts combined. I'm addicted to it. I've loved it from day 1. Now wheatgrass...that's a different story. I'm on my fast now!!!!! I'm on it until a week from tomorrow. Let's see, I'll be done on June 6th!
