Does anyone know if there's any method or way to verify if dates are raw?
Did some research about that and some conflicting info. out there.
Any online trustworthy places to purchase dates that people here have used?
Maybe Sunorganics.com? Miss Cohen refers to them in the resource section of her incredible book. They sell organic varieties of dates - but are they truly raw? Also, anyone buy from reputable places online raw seeds and/or raw grains for sprouting and would like to recommend them?
Thanks
Scott

haven't seen any dates online.
But for nuts/seeds/other raw stuff many people have recommended naturalzing.com for a variety of different products.
You can also find a lot of rawesome stuff at wildernessfamilynaturals.com . They even sell raw organic nuts that have been soaked and dried. Their shipping is cheap also, oh and their goji berries are the best I have ever tasted!

Rawlee and Mindy,
Thanks for the help. I've checked out both of the websites that you guys talked about. They both look promising.
Good Job.
Thanks.

I just got off the phone with Anjou from The Date People. What a joy! She is so open, informative, and interesting to talk with. She said that they used to be certified organic, but it was too cost-prohibitive so they still do the same practices (pesticide free), but are not longer certified. They don't freeze their dates or add anything to them, so they are completely raw and don't have any pesticides.
I am thrilled and she is sending me a price list. :)
Thanks Allison!

Thanks Veganman, Again! You are always giving such good info that I need. I purchase from the Dates People the first time a few months ago. The price is sooooooooo cheap and the dates are sooooooo good. Now, after reading what you wrote, I feel even better!

Hi Lay-lay -
in my research I am finding many companies freeze the dates to kill bugs.

I buy fresh raw dates from Costco, they come in different kinds of containers depending on which Costco you buy from, we have 5 within 1 hour of us, so if one doesn't have them, then another one does.
they are 2 pounds for $7.99, great price, as at Safeway the same exact dates are $8.99 for one pound. YIKES!!!
I LOVE Costco.

Ditto on going through the Date People! They are awesome, their dates are the best I've had in terms of taste and I love the idea of supporting other raw foodists!

Do you guys rinse the dates before eating them?
Also, I read a post here today (can't remember where) that we should cut open dates to check for bugs. That kind of scared me since I never do that and my dates are from the Dates People (thus not frozen to kill bugs). What are your thoughts on this?
