Hi, my name's Erika and while I've been watching this board off and on for a bit I'm just getting around to joining it. I came to raw foods back in February and have been 100% for 63 days (I'm not counting or anything!). I came to raw after suffering from terrible candida and food allergies. Once I settled the food allergies out I kept trying cooked candida diets and could not stick with as the food cravings were out of this world (oh yeah, I kept bingeing on things I was allergic to as well).
I picked up a raw book for extra recipe options thinking that raw foodists were crazy...and then, um, I became one. I've felt so much better since going raw, my detox was intense and once it started tapering off I realized I still had a problem. The candida issue had never really been resolved so now I'm on day 13 of a (hopefully) 3 month sugar fast. Again, my detox is intense but I'm getting through it and even though the detox is terrible I can feel that I'm good underneath all that.
Sorry, a bit wordy. Anyway, I have a lovely daughter who's about to turn 3, an amazing husband. I'm a painter and textile worker of sorts. I'm hoping to start a nutrition program in the fall and start a crazy little craft/health consulting business.
Thanks for listening to all that!

Hey. I spend some time in B'burg in Brooklyn. There's a great place to get raw goodies next to The Bagel Shop on Bedford Ave.

Thanks for the welcomes all. I'm pretty excited about joining up, once the little one goes to bed perhaps I'll have more to contribute to the other threads. Thanks for the Williamsburg tip Amberly, I don't make it over there very often (I'm in Bayridge) but now at least I'll know where to stop for a snack! Shakti17, I sent you an e-mail and gatorgrrl, this candida thing is consuming me right now so I'm sure you'll all hear a lot about it!

Were you raw when you were treating it? I tried treating it while I was cooked to no avail but would love to talk to more raw people about this struggle.

If you have candida or want to do a candida cleanse do you need to avoid certain raw foods? I was thinking specifically of certain fruits??? I don't have a clue but am curious???

Hi Mildred, I would really love to, but I'm not sure if I am going to stay in Brooklyn as my new job here did not pan out... too bad, guess I'll have to take a rain check. You guys have fun though. :p
