I just ordered an automatic ice cream maker from amazon.com. It doesn't take any ice or salt, you just have to press a button and it makes 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream in 30 minutes. I'm so excited to try some raw nut ice cream.

I'll let you know how it is when I make it!!! I'm doing a juice fast all of next week though, so it'll be a couple weeks before I make any ice cream.

Brianna, we had our annual charity yard sale a few weeks ago and i snagged a brand new ice cream maker that was donated. I can't wait to try it too. My health food store just started carrying raw ice cream but I really want to make my own so I can experiment with different flavors. Let us know when you make it !

I just found some good recipes today. One is for nut ice cream, one is for coconut ice cream and one is for a Concord grape sorbet.

Forgive me, but how do you use an ice cream maker when making raw ice cream (or any ice cream, for that matter) ?
Are there special recipies for this or can one use any raw ice cream recipie? Say, for example, can one just puree frozen banannas and put that into the ice cream maker?
Thanks for the info.

You don't need an ice cream maker for banana ice cream. All you have to do is put the bananas in the food processor until they have the consistency of soft serve ice cream. An ice cream maker makes ice cream from milk, so I'll use raw nut milk or coconut milk or a combination of both. Then you can flavor it with raw chocolate, or vanilla, or whatever flavor you want. You just make the nut milk richer than you would want it for drinking and make it sweet with agave or stevia. My ice cream maker that I ordered is automatic, so all you have to do is press a button rather than messing with a bunch of salt and ice like you have to with a manual ice cream maker.

I have an icecream maker that doesn't require any ice or salt but it's a royal pain! What you must do is freeze the container before you make the ice cream. It won't work unless it is totally frozen. That means at least two full days in the freezer for every batch you make. The only I have makes 4 servings only. And the container is so large it takes up a lot of room in the freezer. I don't even think it will fit in the freezer I have now, a side by side.
I never would have bought it. I don't even like ice cream. My daughter bought it for me before she learned of her allergies to dairy and bananas. I tried several ice cream recipes and the only one she even liked was the banana. It is not a vegan recipe though.
For me it was a total waste of money. I've seen a few raw ice cream recipes and I don't think any of them required an ice cream maker. But I didn't look at them really well because I have no interest in ice cream.
