There's a HFS store not too far from Phoenix (1/2 hour) away and they also have a raw cafe. I am sorry I can't remember the name of it though.

You mean the Mandala tearoom in Scottsdale (5th Ave). But it is organic and vegan, not raw. They do have salads that you can get with lots of veggies and nuts. They would be more than happy to customize something. Also, downtown Scottsdale is an interesting place to visit.
I used to live in Phoenix. The only raw place that I know of is the cafe in the co-op in Tempe. The co-op is called Gentle Strength Co-op. Here is the link for more info and directions (note: they have moved to a new location so don't go by old directions):

We have tried the raw food at the co-op. It was good but nothing great, though maybe they have improved since then. The cafe is called Desert Greens and you can view more info about it on their web site. They do serve cooked food, but they have a lot of raw as well.
Have fun.. it's going to be hot though. I have family in Phoenix but I would not live there again.

Actually, I think they are just in the process of moving.. The web site said:
Co-op has a new home at the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and Southern Avenue. It is a very good site in an excellent location, only two miles south of our current store.
The location is in the 'Valley Fair' shopping center, caddy-corner to the Fry's shopping center. It is the most visible part of the shopping center, right on Mill Avenue.

I'm visiting my family right now in Tempe and will be here until the end of the month. I went to Gentle Strength and found that the selection of produce wasn't the greatest - but it's the first place I have ever been able to buy raw carob. They also had two sizes of raw agave and sundried tomatoes. They were sold out of nut milk bags, which is what I wanted to purchase as well. They did have several types of flax crackers though. And, in the prepared deli area, they had some raw lunches available to purchase.
My son and I went to the raw food cafe (i didn't see any cooked - it was all raw) and shared some chocolate coconut cream pie. It was good, but not anything spectacular. They sold some books too (I saw a lady buy Green for Life).
It may be fun to get together and go eat there again while I am here. Even with having to deal with the lightrail construction. Ay!

Gentle Stength is the only place I've found that carries the most raw food stuff. It's really cool. The Whole Foods where I work (Paradise Valley) is carrying more and more. Haven't eaten there though. One of the girls that works there is doing raw too. I got into a converstation with here sometime back when I was there.

melissa you work at whole foods in pv??? i was just
there!!!! it's actually the only grocery store that ever seems to have exactly what i'm looking for! otherwise i have to make 2-4 stops around my apt... trader joes, wild oats, sprouts and the health food store on 32nd and camelback.
do you know chris... i forget what dept he works in, i think in prepared foods.... he was a barista for a long time at the paisley violin, a cafe across the stree from my gallery in phoenix.
which dept do you work in? next time i go grocery shopping there i'll look for you!!
do you know if they are going to put in a raw foods bar? some friends in nyc told me that they put one in in manhattan and they said it rocks!
Yup! I know Chris...great guy. He's in prepared foods and usually works evenings. I'm in the bakery. Yeah for bakery, but then again, I'm a pastry chef, too. :) I don't know if they're putting in a raw foods bar. I totally wish they would though. But it probably wouldn't be organic. :( Most of the produce and food they use in the food bars and juice bar (at least at PV) is not organic. That's really one of my pet peevs (however you spell that!). Yeah....come say hi! I'd love to meet you. My work schedule varies alot though. Maybe I'll see you sometime!

The Wholefoods in Denver & boulder have a raw food bar. It isn't that extensive, but at least it's something.
