Would some of you mind sharing some lunch ideas that your kids enjoy? My husband and I are trying to come up with some new lunches for our kids and would appreciate some fresh ideas.

Thanks!

Well, as a mom of seven raw children, this is just the question for me!

granny smith apples with carob dip
blended salad
dehydrated bread with raw almond butter and honey
bananas or celery with almond butter and raisins
fresh veggies with raw "Cheddar" dip
guacamole and salsa with dehydrated chips
smoothies
banana splits with ice cream from Champion
sprouted buckwheat cereal with sliced fruit and almond milk
carrot raisin salad
Confetti salad with Asian dressing
trail mix
pizza--dehydrated flatbread with tomato sauce and "Cheddar" sauce
raw chili
fruit salad or Tropical Pizza (dehydrated flatbread with avocado/almond butter spread and diced fruit on top
Salad of lettuce, celery, chopped pineapple, diced apple, raisins, pecans with fresh orange juice mixed with a little honey for dressing

Hope this helps!

Allison - I'm so impressed - not only Mum to 7 but 7 Little Raw Ones!! Fantastic!

BTW, can I ask you (sorry to hijack the thread) did you get any books specifically about Raw Kids? If so, which one/s?

Thanks

I have the book Raw Kids. It has some interesting reading, but not a lot of recipes. The recipes that are in there, though, are good.

Allison:

Thanks for the great ideas! I have a few questions on some of them:

granny smith apples with carob dip (Could you give the recipe on the dip)
fresh veggies with raw "Cheddar" dip (Ditto)
carrot raisin salad (what do you use for a dressing?)
Confetti salad with Asian dressing (recipe?)
trail mix (What do you put in yours?)

Salad of lettuce, celery, chopped pineapple, diced apple, raisins, pecans with fresh orange juice mixed with a little honey for dressing (Sounds Great!)

Thanks so much for the ideas!

One more question for you if you don't mind, did you have to transition your children from a SAD diet and if so do you have any tips?

Thanks so much!

Allison,

I made a banana split today, or what I thought was a banana split. I put my strawberries through my champion with the solid plate. The strawberries were such a strong taste, that Bryson wouldn't even touch it. I could only eat it with taking a piece of banana with the bite of the strawberry.

Do you put anything in with the strawberries or whatever berry you're using to make the ice cream?

The recipe for the Cheddar Dip is in the recipe section on this board. I think it's under Cheese Dip or something similar.

We do not use any dressing on our Carrot Raisin Salad.

The carob dip is the Truffles recipe from Eating Without Heating.

The confetti salad with Asian dressing is in The Raw Gourmet.

The trail mix has assorted raw nuts and seeds and raisins. Sometimes we will put other dried fruit in it, too.

We transitioned the children's breakfast first to carrot juice and fruit only. Then we added fresh veggies to every lunch. Then added a green salad to every dinner. Then went completely raw.

Helen, this is how we make a banana split:

We make banana ice cream in the Champion. Then we put the ice cream in a bowl and top it with sliced fresh bananas, strawberries, blueberries, chopped pecans, and carob sauce. You can make a fruit sauce, if you like, by blending strawberries and honey together, but personally we do not give honey to babies under 18 months.

There's my mistake. I should have made the bananas ice cream and accented with strawberries.

I'll tell you, those strawberries were very strong/powerful and extremely sweet. I couldn't imagine adding honey to it.

I'll have to try it again, but with frozen bananas.

Thanks.

Thanks Allison! I have been working on giving mine fruit before anything else in the a.m. and they have enjoyed that. For some reason lunches for me have really been a problem-not sure if it's just getting out of the sandwich habit or what. I'm going to begin giving them more veggies than normal with their lunches and see how things go. Thanks again for the recipe responses, I look forward to trying them out on all of us!

Very impressed Allison! I want a couple more children myself, have been 100% raw for 6 days now and counting and my children eat a fair bit of raw but i will use those suggestions you gave. I saved them all!! Do you have any other favorites? Or is the rest mostly snacking on whole foods? Just curious but do you homeschool or how do you deal with food for lunches.

Please don't be impressed with me. It's only by the grace of God that I am able to do anything.

Yes, we homeschool, so that makes lunchtime pretty easy. I imagine that if a child goes to school, the temptation for cooked food would be great.

thank you also for sharing how you transitioned the kids. How long have they been raw and what age group are they now?

Judging from that statement and another i have concluded that you are an above rubies reader.... am i right? :D

So do you live on a farm? Grow your own food? 9 people is a lot of raw! ;)

Hi Brandy,

Just in case Allison doesn't see your post, I thought I would direct you over to one of her posts where she shares that they now have 12 children :)

Helen,

When we make ice cream I alternate a half of a banana with a few strawberries etc.. to make strawberry ice cream. We also do that with some raw carob powder for carob ice cream. You can use blueberries etc..

I can't wait for summertime to do this again. It is a favorite meal for my children.

Thanks Faith 4 U for reminding me of this. This post is old and I didn't read back. I made some banana ice cream (plain) and wasn't thrilled with it this time, but then again the last time I did have the raw toppings on it. I'll try the banana/strawberry (alternating) and see if I like that better.
