Peace to all,

I recently finished up school (finally!) and now i'm back home in NY after bein in Miami goin to school, and i've found my transition while maintaining raw started off shaky and has gotten progressively worse to the point where it's HORRIBLE! :(
Now while this is the 2nd time that i've gone through this process of coming home from school after being raw for a long period of time, my diet now is a whole lot different than what it was last year, and it's been very difficult for me to maintain. I'm still raw, haven't indulged in any cooked food since i've been back (2 weeks), and for the record, i've been 100% raw for a year and about 3-4 months.

My diet nowadays is more mono and more simple. I don't have a real strong desire for any salads or any green vegetables unless i include them in smoothies. And i usually have 1 smoothie a day, and don't desire anymore. Other than that, i've been eating junk food (healthy good junk food, that is) cashews, raisins, and apricots for the most part. Other than that i've mixed in some mono fruit eating of pears, bananas, avocados, oranges...
There are a few issues however. The bananas up where i'm located are just not as good as the ones in Florida, and neither are the oranges. And i'm just struggling, feeling hungry all the time, not wanting to just indulge on the "junk food" all the time. And to add on top of that, my non-raw family at the house seem to always be cooking some type of animal that would make me nautious just smelling it.. It's just not looking good right now.
I have NO desire for any animals at all, but sometimes as i'm struggling i have a craving at times for some brown rice or maybe some steemed vegetables, because whatever i'm doing now just isn't working. and of course, i know that raw is best and the results i've had are the proof..
I really would prefer not to eat any cooked food and would like to get over this problem while maintaining raw.

Has anyone who's been raw long term, (or even short term) and have seen success ever encountered this problem or something similar? I would love any input on this as usual, this is the best place to come to.
Perhaps i may have to eat some rice and beans or something cooked just for the short term before going back to 100% and maintaining that way??
any type of advice is good advice right about now.
Again, i'd greatly appreciate any input as always!

PEACE!

Well, I don't think there is any junk raw food, personally, I just eat what I like or want, but if you are wanting cooked rice and veggies, I'd eat alot more raw foods, maybe warmed in the dehydrator add more oil and some salt if you are wanting cooked, usually what we want is fats.

Peace
and thanks to both of you for taking out the time and reading my post.
I'm gonna continue fighting through this phase. Just need to stay confident and stride to stay raw in the process.

Hey sweet pea! Congrats on finishing school!!

Well, it seems like you're "kinda" caught between a rock and a hard place there!

But it seems also that you just gotta do what you hafta do...either stick with eating more simply/mono-eating but eat MORE and get used to what's available to you although it's not as good as what you had in Florida OR...indulge in the raw goodies to keep you satiated (you know, those pizzas you were hookin' up while at school and stuff like that?) just to keep yourself from eating what you REALLY don't wanna eat...the cooked food!

Also, pay Lilian and Eddie a visit since you're in NY now...www.rawsoul.com and see about hooking up with some other raw fooders in the area through them, a meet-up or something!

You'll be okay...you just have to make that transition and sometimes a move like that will bring about some other "challenges" for you to overcome! We went through something similar when moving from Detroit to here (WA)...we were used to having the fruit market with CHEAP prices on produce and our favorite natural foods store...but moved here and the farmer's markets are WAAAY more pricey than back "home" and the natural foods store was a little "different" than what we were accustomed to...but we finally made the adjustment and now we're somewhat settled with what we have here and are making it work for us.

Hang in there young bro... Peace!

Mono eating of fruit dominating your diet is not good. You need your veggies, and also to eat nut and seeds and grains. It's no wonder you are hungry since you are at risk of low blood sugar, and also not eating enough food.

YOu need to eat more. And fat is not a bad thing, it's necessary for our bodies to work properly.

Peace and much thanks to you all for responding.

Kyrie.. Thanks for your concern and words of advice. I've identified a few issues. Firstly, in Miami where i was previously, i almost ALWAYS would have a smoothie per day.. at least 1, sometimes 2. One green smoothie every morning including green vegetables and mainly fruit. Since i've been home, it's a lot more common for me not to have a smoothie during a day (like today for example). I just have to find some way to eat more. Period.
I'm also not exercising as often.. I'm just tired overall. I'm enjoying finally not dealing with school, and i'm just enjoying my time of relaxing.
I've just taken that relaxation to the next level i guess, lol.
I eat more than enough cashews, and i don't feel that i need grains. More than being at risk of low blood sugar, it's just the fact that i haven't eaten larger meals. I've never had any blood sugar type of problems or any serious health issues of that nature. At a young age, i've been very athletic throughout my life and still am. So i'm in pretty good shape. Just need to focus more on the variety of my diet.
Thanks again for the input..

Hi Universal,

Yes, I've been through what you’ve been too! We moved from Adelaide to Hobart last year, and adjusting to a new place has been very hard indeed. There is this wonderful market in Adelaide, where you can get best quality fruit at best price, and I was really enjoying myself in Adelaide. When we moved to Hobart, I was really upset at the lack of good quality ripe fruit. Yes, I was struggling. I was hungry at times, and was even contemplating going back to cooked. However, I was determined to find good markets, and we kept looking. Now, after being in Hobart for a year, I know where to go in order to get best bananas, best oranges, and other types of fruit. I found great markets, I found local growers, and this year we also start growing our own produce. The last year has been a struggle for me, but it was well worth persevering.

Eating unripe, poor quality produce will leave anyone hungry. So, my advice is don’t despair and make an effort to try good sources of best quality fruit at best prices. Ask the locals; they can be very helpful. Buy the best fruit that you can buy in season, including the one that is grown locally. Gradually, things will get better.

My experience that mono-eating fruit is the most satisfying type of eating, and the easiest on digestion, has been very similar to yours. You are doing great to follow your body's natural instinct!

Peace to you Gosia,

More than anything, i'd have to agree that i'm following my body's natural instinct and not really overly concerning myself with blood sugar counts, or how many carbs, fats, proteins, etc are in this food.. how many calories i've had today, etc... I'm just eating what i feel like eating at the moment and moving from there.
Also thanks a lot Rawkinlocs for that link. I'm definitely gonna look into that while i'm here.

PEACE!
