hi!!! I just got alyssa's book and went grocery shopping today for week one's food...

well now i'm a little confused.

what do i prepare today from the recipes?
it says to prepare the fettucini alfredo, mock salmon pate, date nut torte and alissa's dressing today?

do i make all of that today? does it stay good until i'm ready to use it?

i guess that would be really nice to be able to make this stuff ahead of time and leave in the fridge for when i'm hungry...

just wondering?!?!? Can't wait to officially start day one tomorrow.

Yes, I think they'd last the week in the fridge. Also, just a suggestion, but you "might" want to halve the recipes just in case 1) you don't like something and 2) if you're the only one eating because some of the recipes make a LOT of food and can be so rich that you won't find yourself eating a whole lot of it in one sitting. I think even with half of the recipe (make the FULL date nut torte, though!) you will still have enough to eat for a couple of days and then on to the next dish. Just keep them stored in airtight containers and they should be fine prepared ahead of time.

I personally LOVE all those you just named except the Fettucini is a little too rich for me...and don't forget you can sub one thing for another so if you already know you like "x" then you can prepare THAT in the place of "y".

Happy eating! :D

thanks!!

and thank you for fixing my avatar! It's perfect now!

well, it's a little late so I think i'll just have to prepare everything when I get home from work tomorrow. Plus I'm not sure that I have air tight containters at home and I finished the saran wrap the other day and forget to grab some tonight.

i usually halve my recipes to begin so thanks for putting my mind at ease about that... i was wondering if i should do that or not. It's just my boyfriend and I..

shoulda put it on my list! I did get everything but the summer squash, they didn't have any, so the guy showed me one similar to it...

goodnight!

Hi daisyjellybean,

I want to do the four weeks in Alissa's book too and would really appreciate if you keep us posted about the food preparation, how long it stays fresh and so on. If you don't mind ;) No really, that would help a lot!

Thanks,
madmel

i will definitely do that! after I get off work today i'm going to start some of the recipes in there so i have them for the weekend.

tonight i have to take down the current show and hang the special show for the weekend art auction and tomorrow and sunday i'll be sitting in the gallery all day and will definitely need to take some food with me so i'm not tempted to run acorss the street to the cafe or worse, to mcdonalds...

Ifound that you for sure need to half the recipes. They make so much that I would get tired of the food and also don't put the sauce on the noodles that way it does last longer. I find that the tomato sauce does last several weeks.

Today is the first day of my second 100 percent raw week. I made those week one recipes. Everything lasted the week. I would halve the fettucini and the pad thai. It is just my fiance and me, and we ate each for a couple of days -- then were tired of them. And I would second the full recipe of the date nut torte -- it was DELICIOUS!!!

so far everything has been salty.... i'm going to start adding salt afterwards if i feel like it needs it....

but so far so good.... i've been doing half raw and half not, but doing pretty good i think. i need to transition... that's what i've learned.

also i think raw zucchini and squash make me sick... my stomach hurt for hours after words and last summer i made the same kind of dish except it had cheese and walnuts that i found in a vegetarian magazine and my stomach hurt after that well, but i wanted to give it a second try.

the mock salmon pate needs less salt and more dill and it would be perfect. i ate it atop cucumbers! yum!

daisyjellybean (can I call you daisy for short? :) ), love your avatar, it's such a pretty picture of you!

I'm getting ready to start another 30 day challenge as well, and had the same problem, could not find summer squash, what did the guy at the store recommend as a substitute?

I'm no expert, (hopefully they will chime in :) ), but it could be possible that since you're doing 50% raw, that the raw zucchini and squash are giving you a sore stomach because of the cooked food sitting in your stomach. Cooked food takes a lot longer to digest, and if you eat a raw meal after a cooked meal (even a while after) the raw has to compete with the cooked and it's not going to digest properly. I know you can do this! You just need to give 100% a try, for however long you want to commit, and see how you feel then. But I don't think it's the raw veggies, I think it's what it's having to compete with, and not getting digested properly?

There's dill in the mock salmon pate? Not in my book, and I just made some today....but YUM...sounds like a fab addition!

Halving the recipes is a great idea. WHen I first started doing alissa's book, I was always wasting food. Now, I even half the pie recipes since I'm the only raw person in my house.

I love your photo!

the mock salmon pate needs less salt and more dill and it would be perfect. i ate it atop cucumbers! yum!Hmmmm .... I have a few comments, if you don't mind. I've never had anyone complain about these dishes being too salty. In fact, they mostly need more seasonings. Are you using Celtic sea salt? If you're using regular table salt, that could be the taste problem. If so, please please toss it!! It's so much a poison. The other thing I'm wondering - if you're using Celtic sea salt - is maybe the taste is off for you because you're eating the dishes along with cooked food.

Which leads me to -- why are you doing that? The four week plan in Alissa's book is designed for you to be completely raw. And, it really really does work!! That's how I went raw and how so many of my students have gone raw. Is it possible for you to give it a try? You will really not achieve the full benefits of the living foods lifestyle -- which are phenomenal! -- until you're all raw. This is Alissa's message, loud and clear in her book, and I've sure found it to be true, too. It's a pretty great thing that happens, really.

Also, when you talk about the raw zucchini and squash giving you a tummy ache, are you talking about the Fettuccini Alfredo? If so, it isn't the vegetable, it's the recipe itself. I couldn't (still can't) eat that recipe. The very first time -- my first week -- it just sat heavy in my stomach. Many others have had the same experience (there are quite a few threads beginning from 1-1/2 to 2 years ago that mention this).

So, don't be afraid to do other dishes with zucchini -- for instance, the angel hair pasta w/marinara sauce is a real winner -- because it's not the veggies.

Best of luck to you. Amazing, transforming journey you're on!

p.s. Dill in the Mock Salmon Pate? Hmmmm ....

p.p.s. I'll be at Eden for a retreat in a few weeks - I'll wave as I drive through Phoenix!
