Ok, I know I have Alissa's book and all and I love it. It's just right now I don't seem to have all of the ingredients to make anything.
Well, I made some flax crackers, and they turned out pretty good.
But any way, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give something great I could make for dinner using the raw ingredients in my house. I could just experiment, but I really can't waste anything. I used my money and bought myself some raw things at the health food market a town over. They were giving out free samples of carob qiunoa rawma bars :).
ok I'll list what I have in the house:

carrots (baby and regular)
Sweet Potatoes
Romaine lettuce
Broccoli
possibly red cabbage
red onion
garlic
Brown flax seeds
sunflower seeds
pine nuts
wheat berries
buckwheat groats
sesame seeds
bananas
apples
raisins
some strawberries
cherry tomatoes (possibly)
kelp granules

I would be greatful for any great ideas so that I can show my mom that I don't just eat salads with nuts all the time (although I absolutely LOVE them and easily could)

You could make sweet potato chips in the dehyrator and then maybe use the pine nuts as a base for a dip. I'm thinking that soaked pine nuts blended with a banana and some raisins for sweetness would probably be good, but don't take my word on that.

thanks spectratrix, that sounds good
can anyone verify that dip. Sounds like it would work to me... thanks that's a good idea!

Go buy one medium sized turnip, a lemon, and some parsely (less than $1) and make the apple & turnip salad. You won't be sorry.. it's AWESOME

I found this recipe for pine nut yogurt; I bet you could mix in fruit and agave/honey (if you have them) to sweeten and flavor it for a chip/fruit dip: http://www.living-foods.com/recipes/pinenutyogurt.html

RowanC, sounds great. If I could get to the store I would definately do so. Would this work with sweet potatoe? probably not. hmm. Actually, I do have some parsley, it is frozen from fresh.

Spectratrix, the pine nut yogurt sounds great!! I don't have a muslin bag though...do you think there is some way I could still make it? Is the muslin bag really needed?

Maydolphin10- YUM that sounds great. I have some soaked buckwheat. It's not fully sprouted but do you think I could still use it? I usually mix the buckwheat with fresh and dried fruit and eat it in the morning, sooo good. or sometimes i do the same with dehydrated buckwheat and pour sweet sunny milk in. mmmm breakfast is my favorite :)

Cheesecloth should work too... or maybe double up some nylon pantyhose. Anything that you could use to seperate the liquid from the solid (as if you're making nut milk) should work.

thanks spectratrix, I don't have cheesecloth but maybe I can use pantyhose. Usually when I make nut or seed milk I just blend the nuts right in and don't strain it, since I don't have cheesecloth.

How about the Broccoli and cheese from Alissa's book?

Veggie,
good idea. :) But how would I make the cheese using only those ingredients? I'll have to look back at the book but I didn't think I had the ingredients to make any of the cheese recipes

Janine,
I don't have a juicer but that is a good idea. We now don't really have many fruits and veggies though. we have a tiny bit of lettuce left (very tiny) and maybe 5 apples, some bananas, broccoli, and carrots. It's hard for me, being a girl who has to get over 3000 calories a day right now (weight gain). I bet if my family was raw and therefore we had a ton of raw foods in the house I would get much better nutrition and gain weight much more easily. *sighs*

I did make those banana bread cookies! I tried one, YUM. I'm having them with sweet sunny milk for dinner tonight. :D

Lunar*Fey,

Do you have any lemons at all or can you get a lemon? If so, you can make a cheese sauce with just pine nuts, garlic, a little lemon juice, a little water and sunflower seeds or even without the sunflower seeds. Sometimes improvised recipes are the best ones! ;) Red bell pepper does lend a nice, "cheddary" kinda of flavor to raw nut/seed cheeses, but it's not necessary as I sometimes make cheese sauces without it and it just results in a milder flavor, but still good!

I'm gonna go through Living on Live Food and see what other recipes you can make successful improvisions with using that buckwheat, etc.

Do you have any condiments at all such as olive oil, etc.?

I see that you have the ingredients you need for the Burger bun recipe on page 330. I'd make half that recipe and if you don't have the herbs or seasonings, don't worry about it because I make mine without it anyway. I'd soak the buckwheat and the next day, rinse really well and make the mixture.

Pour onto the dehydrator sheet/tray/whatever you use for things that may spill through the mesh tray into little rounds and spread into flatter rounds rather than making a "bun" per se. That way it will dehydrate quicker and more evenly. You can then store them (once thoroughly dried) in the fridge and use to make veggie sandwiches.

=========

You can make Paul's Pate on pg. 427 and just omit the Bragg/Nama shoyu, olive oil, celery and almonds if you don't have any of those items.

But use your sunflower seeds, red onion, carrot, and any seasoning you might have such as sea salt, pepper, etc. and maybe even add some kelp powder to it and eat on lettuce leaves or crackers or the burger buns/crackers/bread if you make that! Again, make only half or even a quarter of the recipe (here's where your knowledge of fractions will kick in!! ;) )

=========

The Strawberry Toaster Tarts on pg 505

Cut the recipe down to half or quarter and for the wrappers, sub the dates with raisins.

========

Almond Butter Balls on pg. 510

I used to make these a LOT withOUT the almond butter or honey and just blend the the other ingredients. If you HAPPEN to have any carob or shredded coconut, that's also good blended in with this mixture. Roll into balls and store in the fridge or freezer for a nice, sweet treat!

====
Fruit leather - use any of your fruit...bananas, strawberries, a combo of the two! Another yummy treat!

Hope these ideas help!

aromaticwings,
thanks sounds yummy! :) We no longer have any lettuce or strawberries, but thanks for the idea!

Rawkinlocs,
wow thank you so much Rawkinlocs! It was so nice of you to look up all those ideas and give them to me! And no I don't have any condiments except the kelp powder. Thank you so much!
