smelly carob???

I got my carob in the mail this week from Alissa's company, and it's smelly. I'm not sure how to describe the odor, kind of sour, maybe? Is this how carob is supposed to smell?

I've tried a number of different carob's and none of them smell very pleasant; in fact sour is a good description. However, don't let that deter you; in my experience the smell does not translate into a bad taste.

It is actually something that will grow on you. I made some chocolate pudding a few hours ago and realised when I opened the bag that this was the first time that I had liked the smell.

I too bought raw cacao nibs recently and they smelled funny to me too. I called the company and they said its pretty normal, they will not smell sweet. It smelled kind of sour and fermenty like. It will take some getting used to for me but as long as I know its not gone bad.
