View Full Version : My baby is still clawing at his head....

It doesn't happen in the morning (usually) when he is nursing but from the afternoon on everytime I feed him he claws, claws, claws at his head and face. He has cuts all over his face from this.

I try to hold his hands and he fights me terribly. He will even start clawing at the backs of my hands.

I feel sure it is something I am eating but can't figure it out.

The one thing I keep wondering about is mangos. Only because I have heard that some people get a "mango rash" from eating them. Do any of you know what that is? The reason it makes me wonder is because I have a rash on both elbows that itches like crazy. It gets worse if I eat nuts but it itches every day too. It also seems to be in the afternoon/evenings. I always tend to eat mangoes then.

The weird thing is that I have eaten them for months though and the baby wasn't scratching like that. It is only when I go 100% raw that he does this. Otherwise, when I eat very high raw he doesn't have this problem at all.

So, why is this?

Can you try cutting mangos out for a week to see if it helps? If you think it may be the culprit you may want to experiment. It could be a food sensativity to magos.

That's what I am thinking. That is once we are through ours. :p I hate to say it but not only are they expensive but they call to me. It is the one food that I have craved over and over.

Cravings CAN be a symptom of a food sensativity. I know that's true for me and a few others on the board at least. Hmm...

That's so true! I hadn't thought of that in a long time. I used to crave and EAT so much bread(whole wheat of course ;) )Then found out shortly afterwards that I have celiac's disease and cannot have gluten.

For me though, there are already so many foods that I cannot have. I hope I don't have to keep adding to it.

Thanks for the reminder!

You can call Dr. T (Dr. Adiel Tel-Oren) for a telephone conference at 612-87-GREEN. He is a raw vegan doctor and President Emeritus of the University of Natural Medicine in Sante Fe New Mexico. Do you think it could be a yeast infection? Maybe he needs a probiotic. I know someone with a yeast infection that makes their face itch very much. I too had the first one in my life when 100% raw. I fixed it with probiotics.

hi faith4u -

you might want to try getting rid of teh mangos for a week and see if that helps.

also are getting enough calories? are you getting some omega 3s? ie. a little bit from either hemp or flax seeds? maybe something to evaluate.

what are you eating daily?

hope things get better for you! i am sure that is frustrating for both of you!

Keeping a food diary would be an excellent approach to trying to isolate any possible allergenic foods from your own diet.

I know what you mean. I have SO many food allergies/sensativities and my "ok" list is extremely short at this point...

Mangoes have a substance in their skin and just under that is similar to poison ivy. Most people aren't that sensitive to it, but some are. Please do some research, and if something is telling you that what you're doing might be harming your child, please stop. I'm sure that you can find another food that you can enjoy. And please make sure you are getting enough essential fatty acids and calories in general, as Ariella recommends.

I'm also gluten-intolerant and raw vegan, so I know how difficult it can be to cut something out of your diet if you don't 'have to', but I know I can if there's a good reason. Just think of the extra self-discipline you have to make sure you're taking good care of yourself and your child.

ohhhh your poor baby!! That makes me wanna cry (don't worry, it's just pregnancy hormones...). Hmm, twice in two weeks when I had 100% raw days I ate mangoes and broke out in itchy hives (predominantly on my elbows, knees, ears, neck, and cheeks). This week I went 100% raw without mangoes and didn't break out.

I wonder why people crave stuff they're allergic to?

And while your taking everyone's advice on figuring out what needs to be eliminated from you diet...

Can I suggest you get the little mittens that go on the hands... so you're little one doesn't scratch themself. I used them for my son when he slept at night, because he would scratch his face up.

Good luck finding out what it could be!! :D

People crave what they're allergic to because they get that "good" feeling after eating them. As they detox the cells release the offending food back into the bloodstream. This causes your body to want that "good" feeling again, hence the cravings. I'm not sure I explained that very well...I tried haha. Kinda like that chocolate "high" that some get...it's like that for people who are alelrgic to wheat, corn, soy, ect.

I did that when he was a new, new baby but he LOVES his thumb right now. He relies on it often when sleeping so I keep thinking that if I cover his hands he is going to get frustrated.

Maybe I will try it though!

Thanks
