Can someone please explain what 80-10-10 is? I was reading a post and I don't remember which one it was, but this was mentioned for helping with weight loss. I would like to know what it means. Thanks.

Hi Heather,
80% carbs / 10% protein / 10% fat
Basically to get this you have to eat a lot of fruits, some veggies and a little fat (avocado, nut/seeds). You can plug what you eat into http://www.fitday.com and it will tell you what your percentages are.

Thanks for the link Helen :D
Good question Heather- I was just thinking about that same thing as well. I just started to eat only fruit in the morning like so many have suggested- I am not a fruit guru at all- but I figured I would try it.
So for the last 2 morings I have made fruit smoothies-
1st was 2 apples, a banana, an orange, and some raspberries
2nd was 3 apples, 1 banana and 1 orange
This is probably more fruit than I have ever consumed- EVER. They tasted great! Much better than eating them whole- Well, let me tell you- I feel like I have done a 360 degree turn! I feel the tingle again! I have SO much energy! Not kidding, yesterday, I stacked an entire cord of firewood by myself! I cut my grass with the push mower (not much of a yard, but hilly- good workout) Plus, I pulled weeds, planted 50 daffadil bulbs, and washed down and scrubed the driveway! I feed and bathed my 3 children, cleaned the kitchen, watched American Idol, read until 12am, finally went to sleep- Now, at 5am, I'm up and reving to go! I feel amazing! SO I guess I am sorta close to that 80-10-10. I can't wait to weigh in again on Monday morning because I feel like my stomach is much flatter today! :D
Cheers to good health and healing!

Helen and FeelinGood,
Thanks so much. I was actually wanting to eat mostly fruits from now on, but thought it would be too much sugar. I have aproximately 140 pounds to lose, is this something that will help with the weight loss? I know that when I was at a more normal weight, I didn't have the health issues that I have now; cronic asthma (although I would have flare-ups, I didn't have to use medications daily), and now pain in my head daily. I don't mean headaches, it is more like a shooting pain, and sometimes a numbness for a few seconds, then it dissapears. It started since I started working again. Maybe there is a link? I know that if I can get my body back under control, and get rid of this over-acidity and extra weight, all of this will be aleviated, and I will be able to handle the normal every day stresses of home and work. I just feel like right now I need to do something quick.

Wow, you're not kidding Helen! I want that much energy! Good for you Feelin'Good! I got tired & tingly just reading all you had done. :D
Heather, I have almost that exact amount to lose. You will melt away eating like this, no kidding. I had lost 14 pounds in 12 days my last official weigh in. I think it will be 20 by the end of 30 days.
Hmmmm... maybe we should do a smoothie challenge... 3 smoothies a day for 30 days. We would be superwomen flittin' and flyin' around, chopping firewood, planting flowers all over the place!! lol

Wow FeelinGood . . . are you sure it was just fruit in those smoothies, lol! Even when I'm not as raw as I'd like, I still have a smoothie every morning. I'm hooked! My current favorite is 2 bananas, 1 c. mixed frozen berries and 1 c. water. I also love banana with frozen mango and pineapple, sometimes with a peeled lime thrown in. But banana and frozen strawberry has to be my favorite. Just like a strawberry shake, and I get to have it for breakfast! I used to use almond milk for creaminess, but I've discovered that I like them with water just as much, so it's an easy way to cut out the calories and not have bad food combining. I've also been thinking about adding a couple tablespoons of ground flax to get more omega's in my diet, but I'm afraid it will gel it up. Anyone do this?

Sounds good to me Deb :D
I've had 2 smoothies in a day, I don't think I've ever had 3.
This morning I had:
freshly squeezed OJ (8 oz)
plum
20 oz smoothie (strawberries & banana)
3 pieces of onion bread (raw), each piece is 3" x 4" and about 1/8" thick.
This is a lot for me before 12:40 pm. I hope I don't over due it today, but no matter how much I eat, I HAVE to be ALL RAW today.
So maybe I'll try to get 2 more smoothies in and I want to have a salad. Of course with the size smoothies I make, maybe one more would be just fine.
I have karate tonight so there won't be any eating from 6 - 9. So I only have 5 hours left to squeeze in 2 more smoothies and a salad. I don't know . . . I just finished my smoothie so I'm not hungry now.
Oh, yeah, Heather . . . . go ahead and eat the fruit. Just try to stay raw and see if you FEEL the difference and then see if you see a difference in the way your clothes fit and/or what the scales say :)

Olive, I've added a little ground flax to my smoothies and it didn't gel up too much. Just don't leave it lying around too long, which I'm sure you wouldn't 'cause strawberry-banana smoothies ARE good and too good to leave and not drink right up! :)

Doug Graham's site has really been informative to me too. I have tried 80-10-10, it is difficult, but the energy is great. One thing I noticed when I first went raw was that I had a lot of sucess when I told myself I could have all the fruit I wanted. Back then, there were days when I ate kilos of bananas and coconuts a day!
I think Doug's info is fringe, but many people have LOTS of sucess with it.
And doesn't a ripe juicy orange sound real good right now? I am off to peel one...

I agree Feelin' Good. I've been eating only fruit for bkfst (and fruit juices for "morning tea" for a couple of weeks now and my energy levels are WAY up there. I'm not sluggish in the mornings and I'm not disfunctional until I have a cup of tea & cereal like I used to be.
I was inspired by Fit for Life - only fruit & juices before midday and it's worked wonders for me.

I agree with the smoothies and fruit only until noon. It gives me so much energy-even if I've been up all night working.
I noticed, over the course of a year (in which I was about 85% raw), that whenever I had something besides fruit for breakfast (like toast) I would literally fall asleep within the hour. I guess it was the processed sugar/blood sugar spike. And not only would I fall asleep, I'd be in such a deep sleep for hours that upon awakening I felt like I was drugged. Just to punish myself ( ) I tried this experiment a couple times, always with the same results.
Has anyone experienced increased mental clarity after a morning smoothie? I am NOT in any way a "morning person", but my mind is so clear after drinking one that I attack all my harder assignments right after finishing.
So it's smoothies for me in the morning!

Autumn, I was never a morning person but have kids forced me to become one. But after I started my vitamins and now with being raw, I bounce out of bed early in the morning rather than get dragged out. LOL.
