I'm a combination. Both cost and the type of food makes helps me decide. For example, bananas are hiding in their peel so I'll buy non-organic. But apples are waxed and treated and I want to eat the skin so I buy organic. Any fruit or veggie that I eat without peeling I buy organic.

I eat a mix. I prefer organic whenever possible, but that is not always feasible. As you know, I have been known to eat cooked tubers and such, and I would probably choose a cooked organic sweet potato over a raw non organic one. But that is a choice.
It comes down to cost and availability. My DH and I do our best. For him, I will buy a lot of organic cooked foods, like cheese or dairy or something. Organic dairy is something we have always been a stickler about.
Then, we do a lot of supplemental detox and cleansing herbs, as well as fasting to help our liver and kidneys deal with releasing the exotoxins from non organic food. Honestly, I have lived in places where you just can't get organics, and the soil as not capable of sprouting food.
Cassy.

Personally, if I am being good, everything is certified organic or organic but my SAD times --those food sources are questionable...then i am venturing into "synthetic."
we have one store that specializes in a variety of organics--but by golly a cucumber is nearly two bucks--so i buy one. Bell pepers (all three colors) $7/ lb--i think a good portion is lettuce adn cabbages for me and fruits- FUJI APPLES
Cassy loved that EWG site!
organic luv,

About 95% of my produce is organically grown.

I would like more organic, but they are hard to find. I agree, bananas arn't an issue- I buy them for $.93 for 7 lbs! Can't go wrong there!
I heard the tastes is much different but I really haven't noticed much in my apples and such...

I try to get as much organic as I can. I never get strawberries unless they are organic, but most other fruits and veggies I'll get conventional if I can't find organic. Bananas I don't spend the extra for organic.

I try to get organic if I can afford it, which isn't as much as I'd like. I'm going to grow my first garden this year for plenty of freshly-picked organic produce. :)

Organic is always cheaper in the summer months with farmers markets and all...but in winter, I don't eat as organic as I'd like to. One thing I never compromise on anymore is tomatoes. Organic or nothing. The last tomatoes I bought that were non-organic tasted like fish! They were awful. Must be genetically modified. Yuck.

I am also going to try the garden approach myself this spring and summer! That way, I KNOW what is on my veggies, and it should be cheaper. We always grow tomatoes and cucs anyway. I'm not sure what else I will try this year-

My ND told me it's really difficult to find truly organic produce unless we grow it ourselves. He also told me to soak all my produce for 2 hours in water mixed with 1 TBS of Hydrogen Peroxide - this will draw out all of the impurities. Thought you'd like to know.

I'm very fortunate to have an organic delivery service here in my area, as well as at least 4 markets that I know of that sell organic produce. There are very, very few things that I eat that aren't organic.
Because there are just two of us to shop for, the cost seems very worth it to me (even though it absolutely pains me to pay $5 or more/lb for a green pepper.:( ) I can't imagine how those of you with larger families could do it. Someday, when I have yard again (Live in a small apartment right now), I will have a garden again and will do that as organically as possible.
This is a very interesting topic - thanks Linda!

There are some things I will only buy organic because of the higher pesticide content, like berries and peppers. I also only buy organic bananas, but mainly because of human rights issues. Banana plantations in South America (where the huge majority of bananas come from) are basically slave run and the workers have many health issues. The organic freetrade bananas are 10-20 cents a pound higher here and I figure the few bucks is worth it. Right now I probably buy 70% organic and 30% conventional.

I buy about 30-40% organic, basically it's a cost issue for us atm. But when finances get back on track this year I will definately buy ONLY organic produce (we have a few home delivery services & markets close too).

In the summer time I can grow a lot of my own. But in the winter I am at the mercy of the local supermarkets.
