Hey Everyone -

I just saw my nutritionist the other day, told her I was doing raw. Her biggest concern was making sure that I am taking in enough calories as the body will not function at it fullest without enough fuel. I said I wasn't dropping weight and she said that is because my metabolism is slowing down. She thinks this could be one reason I am so tired.

Thoughts?

Hi Veganman! I'm no expert, but I lost a great deal of weight on a vegan (not raw) diet a year or two ago. I ate a lot of fruits and veggies to fill me up but depleat calorie intake, I soon became constantly tired (not enough fat, protein, or calories) and my metabolism dropped drastically. By eating raw to lose weight you will give your body excellent nutrients, but you can only reduce calories for so long without your body going into "starvation mode" and lowering your metabolism. Also, it's important to get lots of fats and oils in your diet from nuts, coconut, avocado, olive oil, etc. I would try increasing your calories for a while and excercising some to increase your metabolism and your energy level. Also, try and get an idea of the range of calories you need. Adult males need at least 2,500 but can need up to 4,000-5,000! It can sometimes be difficult to meet this goal on raw. Hope this helps!
