Ok remember how Goyethereforraw (I believe thats her user name) so kindly gave me a gift certificate to www.rawfood.com ? Gosh it was so amazing and wonderful and generous of her!
Well I haven't used it yet, although I have planned to every day! I just can't decide. Can anyone give me some suggestions of things that would be useful and helpful and,of course, delicious!

Do you have Alissa's book and DVD set yet? Was one of the best things I bought for myself and naturally motivating.
Have fun shopping.

Hrm... if it were me with the gift certificate, I'd probably get some nori, dulse flakes, tahini, flax crackers, and some dried papayas and mangos. :)

Lunar, I read your other post and you said that you didn't have any raw olive oil. You should definitely get the Bariani olive oil from there. Alissa sells it also but since you have such a generous gift for the NFL site, use it on that amazing oil. Many recipes call for raw olive oil and that is a really tasty one. This olive oil is so good you don't even have to make it into a dressing, its great on its own. If you don't have coconut oil, I would recommend that too. I know you have issues with taking in enough calories and not only are those oils really tasty and very beneficial to your skin, hair and general health but they will add some calories to your diet. Hemp seeds are very good to get in your omega 3s and 6s and not as easy to pick up in just any store. Lastly, save enough for shipping. From my experience, they are not the cheapest. They like to send all of their stuff UPS with lots of "do not irradiate, organic food inside" stickers.
ps. Did you notice that some people were fasting for you this week?

I havn't looked, but does Alissa sell products other than the foods, book, and DVD's. If she sells a spiral slicer or something along those lines? That way it won't go as quickly as food :p

The gift certificate wasn't for Alissa's site.

Coconut oil is great for you and if you are forced to eat cooked food, then coconut oil is stable at high cooking temperatures meaning that it does not react chemically and turn into cancer causing toxins. According to my RVD this is the oil to use if you have to cook. Also it is just plain good for you. I eat it raw on crackers. I would also buy some raw nuts, especially if you are trying to gain weight.

Definitely buy some "staples" for yourself that your family may not buy you...like nuts, and coconut oil (yum) and ....well think of the things you've wanted to try, but just didn't have the money! I couldn't live without olive oil....I'm not familiar with the sight, so I'm not sure of all they have...definitely go with what you've seen that "looks" good to you!! Happy Spending to you!

thanks everyone, you've given me some wonderful ideas.
This is a list of some things I'm thinking of getting....
They had raw wild jungle peanuts or something that are like 24% protein and don't grow that bacteria or whatever it is other peanuts grow and is supposed to be absolutely delicious...i was debating whether or not to get them though as they are quite pricey (i think it was like $15 for a pound)...so I think I may skip those. I'm not at all positive yet but here's what I'm thinking:
*hemp seeds
*carob powder
*Mesquite Meal (anyone ever tried this? is it good? they're all out but I think it will be worth waiting until they get it in stock again)
*dark agave
*Coconut butter (is this as good as the oil? or is it the same thing?)
hmm I can't remember what else I was thinking of...

Spectratrix-Good ideas :) I thought dulse flakes weren't raw?
The ones on that site say that they're "low temperature dried" so they're probably raw. I'm sure you could always email them to ask for sure if you wanted to get some.

I have tried their raw jungle peanuts and unless you have nothing else to buy, I would hold off. They were a definite treat but they have a very distinct taste and I dont think would do well in a lot of recipes unless it was a trail mix. I would stick to staples like the olive and coconut oils, hemp seeds and maybe the powders. Its so not fun buying the staples for the raw kitchen but since this is a gift certificate, it takes the sting out a bit.

thanks Drawn, I was thinking the same thing. is coconut butter different then coconut oil?

No. The oil is the oil from the coconut. The butter is the meat and oil blended together and it looks more like a nut butter. I've never had the butter but I think I like the flexiblity of the oil. The oil is solid at anything less than 75 degrees so you can sort of use it like a butter too; as karen said, spred on a cracker. I just take a tablespoon daily. I like when its solid so in the summer I keep it in the fridge. For recipes that require coconut oil, like the coconut cookies, I just leave put it in the dehydrator for a bit or put it in a sealed container surrounded by hot water. It melts easily.

Drawn,
ok thanks :). Does it taste like butter though, never really liked the taste of butter....I'm guessing it doesn't. So you don't suggest the coconut butter? if for some reason I can't get the oil would you suggest it or oil or nothing? thanks :)

no coconut butter, doesn't taste like butter, it tastes just like oil, that has a slight coconut taste to it.

The goji berries are nice. They are good for ya also.
looks like they have coconut oil and coconut butter. You could choose which one you want.
The oil:

The butter:

The mequite meal, it has a grawnola flavor. I have not used yet, I actually just opened it to try it so I could tell you what it tastes like. I can see using it in raw cereals, cookies, grawnola bars, stuff like that.
I really love the hemp seeds. They also supply you with your omegas. I could be wrong, but I thought I heard someone say they supply you will all of your omegas.
I agree on the raw peanuts. If you age getting them for the protien, then get them, but to me, they don't taste like the conventional peanut. If you have ever had a raw peanut that they put in those chocolate bar thingie for x-mas, they are kinda like that. I think people should try them, but maybe later. I personally would get some other stuff first.
I love their raw olives. I prefer the Moroccan olives. I have tried those and the greek olives. I found the greek olives to be to salty for my taste. They are a good fat. They are also suppost to help with mucous.

If you don't have a dehydrator, I would get some flax crackers. They are good.
I have been wanting to try the pumpkin seed butter:

Anyways, good luck with deciding! :)

Thank you Honey bee joy! I would like to try flax crackers, but I got a dehydrator at a tag sale and if someone will give me a ride to the little health food store in the next town over (which they already said they wont any time soon) I'd like to buy myself some flax seeds there. thanks so much for your suggestions. I'm thinking coconut butter since it is less expensive for more of it.
And thanks for trying the mesquite meal so you could tell me what its like! Thanks so much!
