What about whirring up whatever their fave fruits are, or bananas and then adding some honey or agave if it needs to be sweeter and some ground up flax seeds?

Or - if you soaked the seeds and then added to them shredded apple then crackified them?

I don't have the book but I saw in the book The Raw Food Primer, a recipe for flax raisin cookies that sounded good.

I have read studies and scientific reports that suggest keeping flax intake to less than 50 g a day (I think 28 grams is an ounce, so that's like under 2 ounces), and I follow that. The studies seem to indicate that a little flax is very good, but too much is not good. According to credible information I have read, flax also produces hydrogen cyanide in addition to all the other good stuff. So I do enjoy some flax but I keep my intake reasonable and well under the aforementioned guidelines.

Flax is so versatile and easy to work with, if you put some sweet stuff that your kids like (apricots? raisins? apples? etc), and blend with whatever and flax, it'll work. I like to "cut" the flax with other stuff like ground oat groats, sometimes buckwheat, whatever.

My problem with flax crackers is that I can't control myself with them. :o

I can't eat just one or two or three.....know what I mean. Especially the savory ones I make. We fight over who gets how many around here. Even my two year old hears the dehydrator running and runs over and asks for yummy crackers.

So far the sweet crackers haven't gone over well here. I made Alissa's banana crackers (I thought they were good) and I made my own apple cinnamon kind too. My family didn't like either. Oh well. I will keep trying.

I was wanting more of a graham cracker type one. Maybe RP will share exactly what she does. ;)

Okay RP, I'm going to chime in with the others asking for more specifics on your flax graham crackers. I've been pondering how to make this exact thing, though I would have never thought to add corn -- who knew?! So, while we await your reply, I'll continue to daydream about RAW honey grahams slathered with almond butter...mmmmm....

I know EXACTLY what you mean, faith4u. I can't make those guys fast enough, and I'm the only one eating them in my house! I love crispy things, and the flax crackers really satisfy the crunch craving. And, although eating too many of them does make me a little bloaty for a day or so, the next day...well...it all sorts itself out if you know what I mean. :D

This thread has an a possible recipe for a 'graham' cracker....
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5670&highlight=graham+cracker

It's all nuts though, so maybe that isn't what you are looking for?

I agree that the flax and corn based graham crackers of RawPriestess sound really yummy. I can't wait until I can get a dehydrator so I can have crackers again!!!! I tried making crackers in the oven last week, and well, let's just say it didn't work out :p

Okay here is my graham cracker recipe

4 cups frozen corn (take fresh corn and cut off the cob, then freeze, it changes the texture)
3/4 cup flax meal (flax seed, ground, unsoaked)
1 tsp fresh ginger (grated)
1/2 cup coconut oil
3 T agave' nectar
1 T mesquite' pod meal
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/8 tsp Celtic Sea Salt
dash cayenne

put into food processor, and blend until smooth

spread onto teflex sheets (makes two), and score with the back of a knife to make the shapes and sizes you want.
