Did going raw cause you to move to a more natural look (if you weren't natural-looking already)? Did you wear less make-up? Go back to your original hair colour if you dyed it?

when i was raw before, I found I didn't need as much make-up as I once did because my skin was so nice. I don't dye my hair but I do frost it because I like the look

I've never worn a lot of makeup, but I used to have certain things I'd never leave the house without wearing, like mascara. I still like mascara, but I am all around more comfortable with who I am so if sometimes I don't wear it, I don't feel like I look horrible.

I still color my hair, I enjoy it. :)

I still like coloring my hair with henna occasionally, and wear make-up occasionally. Not on a daily basis though, and I do not wear make-up at work. I actually prefer my-self as I am. Foundation is something I stopped using completely. In the past, I would use it, because it made my skin look better. Now, it makes my skin look worse.

yeah I don't wear it everyday, just when I feel like it or a special occasion

Hmm.. I had my period of make-up when I was younger, about 14-15 because I thought it was what you had to do, it was what everyone else did. Then I stopped. Coloured my hair twice when 17 because I wanted to see how it felt. Have not died it since. I love myself as I am, it was this way I were created and I would feel silly for trying to change that :p Raw has improved my skin though, which is really nice! :D

when you say you enjoy it, do you mean you try different colours?

i dye my hair a kind of honey blonde... i'm wondering if i should try red, or go brunette, or a lighter blonde... but it's long, so i don't want to stress it too much...

frivolous, i know.

alissa had blonder hair at one stage, but now is brown. also jingee used to be blonde, and now is a more natural brown.

my natural hair colour is a 'lovely nut brown' according to my grandmother...

I'm about as natural looking as it gets - no makeup, dreads, no shaving, wearing the same clothes for 3 days if they aren't dirty (saves water and energy!)... need I go on? But I've always been this way aside from experimenting a bit when I was younger - dyed my hair once and only once, played with makeup a touch.

I stopped wearing makeup about3 years ago because I simply got tired of spending so much time worrying about my looks. Also, I have learned how bad cosmetics are for your health. Did you know mascara can lead to macular degeneration? The macula is in the back of the eye.

I knew eventually I would have to think about this! I have never been the kind of person that wore makeup everyday....now I wear it even less. I don't hardly ever wear foundation, but eyemakeup, yes, I wear it if I wear nothing else. I hate to hear that about mascara......My eyelashes are one of best features, so I hate not to "dress them up", oh well, my eyesight is more important!! Thanks for the info.....can I ask where you got it??

I never liked make-up. Seemed too "girly" for me so I didn't start using anything until I was 15/16. Then it was just some beige powder to try to cover my redness on my cheeks and some powdery eye shadow. Maybe lip-gloss. Now I just do the powder stuff, but usually Friday-Sunday at work. I think it can affect the final outcome of my skin and that it COULD get even better if I stopped using it. If I continue to use this stuff I think I'll get bare essentials instead.

I think it's like anything I do. I start at one extreme...then move to the complete opposite...and then eventually find a happy medium. LOL :p I started out the first 10 years wearing LOADS of make-up (mostly to hide all the acne). Then I met my husband...who loved my looks without. Then I had allergic reactions everytime I put something on my face....that last 3 years...so, no make-up at all during that time. Now I can wear some if I chose...but because of raw my acne is cleared up and I don't feel the need to hide my skin like I once did. So, for most of my life...I go all natural! :D Sunday mornings for church...I paint the eyes! There is something in me that says dressing up requires make-up!

tvillemom,

I think I read it on a website somewhere. I can't remember exactly what I was looking for when I found it. There is also cadmium in cosmetics. The half-life for cadmium in your body is 20-30 years. That is how long it takes for the cadmium to leave your body. And that is only halfway through it's life in your body.

I find I am wearing less makeup and especially notice my face skin is so much smoother. It isn't as uneven in color so there isn't so much to try and hide now! The biggest difference lately is my hair, wow it is smooth and shiny versus dry and broken end looking. No more frizz, very unusual for me. This started after I began daily green juices, maybe the cucumber in it is helping! Nice changes, that is for sure.

I have never really cared for makeup. Not sure if I'm lazy or just not girl-y enough. So I go nude on my face hehe.

As far as my hair... I usually die it to colour over any stray grays... my family goes gray very early. But I really want to go back to my natural colour b/c dying my hear is hard on it (esp. due to low thyroid function).

Shel,
Isn't it funny how the men in your life generally prefer little or no makeup?
I have been in several long-term relationships, and all of them liked me better bare-faced.

I used to play with makeup and wear a good bit of it, but now that I'm married I find myself not wearing as much because he really prefers me au naturale, my skin is clear (FINALLY, now that I'm in my late 30s) and there isn't anyone else I'm trying to impress....

I use to have to put a layer fo foundation to cover my blemishes, redness and such but now I can go without or I do use Larenim mineral makeup line that I like to wear for color and dynamic! It's not heavy and I actually feel beautiful and feel comfortable if I had to head out the door with or without makeup. My features are alive and have balance whereas the before, I looked tired and yuck looking....

I have yet to color my hair b/c I am dramatically different from my roots. I waws going towards Aveda but I will see...........I'm concerned about the reaction. Oh and my roots have changed from a true blue black to a really dark dark chocoate brown.

I come from a family of big haired and heavy make-up Italian ladies!!! SO I basically wear makeup to work but it takes me 5 minutes to do. My hair used to be blond--now brown. I wear no make up on weekends --only if i am going out.

I am blessed to have olive skin so i can get away with just wearing lipgloss.

I've definitely noticed a change -- I won't use any face creams, lotions or anything now unless it's just pure plant. I just use almond oil, avocado, rose water, etc.

Raw food is making my skin really clear but I do still use a little make up when i go out or want to cheer myself up -- mostly eye make up.

I've also got much more ecological about household products -- and am also questioning where the fabric of my clothes comes from, so the raw diet is having quite a big effect on me. It's happening gently from the inside, but is pervasive and persistent...

Instead of lotion I use olive oil. I use avocado for my conditioner, leave on 10 minutes.

I believe I was already headed in the direction of a more "natural" look anyway - the raw food thing just kind of fit in place. I really only wear mascara now and always look for the most organic and natural skin care products I can find. I have a problem with skin cancer so I do have to wear block every day. But I have also made great strides in my daily choices with regard to buying more organic clothing, linens, toys for our kids, etc. I even cut my hair to a more "no nonsense" style.

Being raw isn't about just eating raw food - it seems to encompass a great deal of my life. It effects all areas and facets of me and my family. SO much for the better!

I been natural since I had my first kid THEN 3 years later I found raw foods. Now with my second daughter, I am doing a lot more natural things around my house, don't use toxic cleaners, use cloth diapers, don't use much my drier or dishwasher, limit TV, don't use pesticides or herbicides, homeschooling, and on and on lol I love been natural :D

actually it is not that bad, I only use them at home and my baby looks so darn cute with them :D I didn't use cd with my first and I regret it so much now. I mean I save sooo much $ and there has been never any diaper rash :D with disposies, my first used to get diaper rash all the time :(

I never really wore much make-up anyway but I started wearing my hair naturally after my oldest son was born. It was much more convenient. I cut it short and wore it that way or I wore braids. That was 6 years ago, before I knew about the raw lifestyle. Now it all just kind of goes together.

I used to wear makeup to even out my skin tone years ago, and make up made me look less sleepy. The last four years I don't really bother though unless there's a special occasion, and raw has made my skin glow, and the circles have started to disappear. I still do a high lift tint (partial highlight) on my hair because I feel weird with really dark hair- been sun bleached my whole life pretty much. The hair stuff is organic though which I love and I wouldn't still get it done if it weren't, believe the line is called organics (it really is fabulous, not smell or watery eyes for highlights)

Raw has caused me to be almost completely natural (I still rid myself of unwanted body hair though), yes. But I stopped wearing makeup when I was about 14 (before that I wore just eyeshaddow and lipstick but never foundation). I'm 19 now and all I've been wearing for years now is sunblock everyday. Sometimes on rare occasions I wear lip gloss but again, that's rare. I have never once dyed my hair or chemically treated it (although I once thought it would look good dyed green but I'm glad I never did it). The worst I ever did to my hair was blowfry it and I stopped doing that when I was 12.

I have been looking for a more organic hair coloring since I have been doing raw. I am very gray and look so old if I were to leave it that way. But the ones I have found are so very expensive.. over $10.00 and as it is now I fight myself spending the $7-9 now.

Have considered the henna but am unsure how to use it..

as far as make-up ...I never have been one for that.. My Dad had ingrained in me years ago that it made people look "painted" or like a "street walker" so I just never did much. Mascara and thats it. Now I am not saying that anyone that wears make-up is a street walker... lol... I have seen some women wear alot of make up and it has been put on very strategically, artistically beautiful..

I also sweat alot so make -up does not stay on me.

It has defenantly changed what I do. I do not wear make up much anymore. I will probably get some of that natural mineral make up, but I have just not gotten around to it. I do not blow dry or straighten my hair much any more. I do not color my hair at this time. Raw has helped me apriciate the natural things. I cannot say that I would never get highlights again, but for now I don't feel the need for them. I used to me a cosmetologist and I would color my hair black, blue, red, purple, you name it, I did it. I used to wear the loudest make up. That was back in 2000. Still before raw I would still wear alot of make-up. I use all natural bath products. I am not embarrased about not shaving like I used to be. I still shave sometimes, I just don't let it control me. I don't wear deoderant anymore. Sometimes I will wear the rock or some natural stuff from the health food store, but normally I don't wear anything. I used to LOVE perfume. I have like 30 bottles of different fragrances. I don't wear them anymore. They are still sitting in my closet collecting dust. Raw has helped me to apriciate me for who I am, insted of trying to change or cover up the things about me that I was self concious about.
