What size dehydrator?

I'm considering purchasing a dehydrator. Right now it's just me and my husband in the family, and I'm not sure what size dehydrator to get. I'd hate to get one that eventually winds up not being big enough for us and however many kids we have, but I don't want to buy a really big one if I don't need. Any advice on what size to get?

If you are all raw you need a 9 tray Exculibur dehydrator. I need one soooooooo bad!

I just "cook" for myself and there are times when my nine tray is full and I need more room.

I say get the 9 tray. I don't even use it a ton but when I do all trays are full and I'm very glad I got it instead of the 5 or 4 tray. I live alone and I only uncook for one but I'm still really happy about my decision. Also, I like the size for when I need to take out trays for bigger items.

The voice of experience, too. I purchased a four-tray Excaliber years ago since it was just me and cost was the main consideration. Wishing I would have spent the extra for the nine-tray. I vote nine-tray. You will be amazed how much you will use it to capacity. Also, teflex is a must. Noticed some sellers offer free or reduced rates for these at purchase.

I have the four tray and am madly saving for a NINE tray. I will still use my four tray too as I know I will use it!

Once a month I make up a lot of batches of stuff and do a lot of dehydrating. Also my batches last a while so that i can just scoop out and dehydrate as needed. But boy I NEVER have enough space!

9 tray, definitely. i have a 4 tray but it just isn't enough. i don't use the dehydrator often, but when i do i really wish that i had the 9.

i think it's rawpriestess that has TWO 9 tray dehydrators and she says it isn't enough! :p

I don't use my dehydrator everyday, but I do use it often. I am the only one who eats raw in my family (DH is slowly coming around :D ) but I am soooooo glad I spent the extra on the 9-tray! I ALMOST bought the 5 tray (thinking the same thing....it's just me, and money wise....) but there are times I've got that thing loaded down with dehydrating buckwheats, crackers and veggies!!! If you and DH both are eating raw, you'll DEFINITELY use it....all 9 trays!!

I second the vote for the 9 tray. It's just me raw and I am using a round one that stacks and saving for the 9 drawer Excalibur. I imagine I will have them both running sometimes! :D
