View Full Version : Newbie question. Candida / fruit? Help!
Hi everyone!
Ifound this site three days ago when i decided to go raw. :)
I have been suffering from candida /leaky gut for 10 years now.
I was sticking to a no sugar, alcohol and wheat free vegan diet and the symptoms were better.
Then christmas hit! some sugar set a craving for more, the usual story after exclusion, the symptoms returned but are the worse i have ever experienced!
I am constantly bloated. I look like im going to give birth!
So thats the story that led me to raw.
Since ive been on it i have stuck to juicing organic vege with an apple and eating salad. no fats like avacado or nuts. drinking plenty of water.
I FEEL GREAT. POSITIVE. I cant believe how calm I feel.
I would love to include a range of fruits as the vege only is ok for now but the novelty might wear off!
As fruits have been restricted because of the candida im keen to try, but scared of the symptoms going out of control.
I have done lots of research but with such conflicting results.
I realise this is my journey and i might have to just leap in and go for it but it would be good to get some feedback on this one.

I deal with candida suffering clients a lot in my line of work...the leaky gut situation is the worst part! Until you get that under control, the candida will continue to travel about in your blood stream causing symtoms systemically.
The best thing for leaky gut l-glutamine. (it is the food the cells use to rebuild and reform the semi permiable membrane that is our bowel wall.) You can take that in a supplement form (Intestinew by Renew Life is a good one, but I am biased since that is the company I work for) OR you can do even better, by consuming foods such as cabbage that are high in l-glutamine. It is also found in meat. (most supplemental l-glutamine is from cabbage actually.)
You may want to consider drinking the juice rather, since the fiber is high in cellulose which can cause more bloating, unless you take a supplemental enzyme. Alissa sell them on her site, and there are many on the market.
Now, with regard to the Raw Diet and Candida, you will want to consider that the yeast ferment sugar or from fruit or otherwise. You will probably want to limit your sweet fruit consumption, and stick to low glycemic produce such as greens, watery fruits, green apples, etc. You will want to do this while simultaniously doing a parasite/yeast control product. Something that will target and kill the little buggers. So, in that way you will in effect starve out the ones that make it past the antiparasitic herbs.
Personally, I do a candida/parasite cleanse once a year. About 10 years ago I had a BAD bout with yeastie beasties, and since then I find that it is all about maintanance. Once the candida have populated and grown roots (They really do--they mutate) it is a lifelong issue unless you keep it in check. I have done so eating raw, including lots of raw fruit. Let me explain what I mean.
Once you complete such a cleanse, you can then add back in fruit in moderation. Taking probiotics and eating LIVE CULTURED FOOD is actually a great way to naturally fight back excess yeast. You can private message or email me, and I can send you some more info. (I manage an arm of the education department at my company, so I have access to loads of free data.) When I eat fruit, I try to make sure that I am getting lots of greens during the day. They will provide minerals, and the good fiber will feed the healthy bacteria in my gut that keep the yeast in check. The cultured food also helps by increasing the population of healthy bacteria.
Bear in mind that everyone's body is unique, and you will need to experiment as to how much fruit sugar your body can handle. You can do this: Just listen to your symtoms...
Good luck, and feel free to ask more questions.

Hi cassie
Thanks for all the information!
I am on day four now.
listening to my body i found myself going into a fast. Yesterday i took a little organic juice (with red and white cabbage) and pints of water. i dont intend to keep this up for longer than three days as i know i would like supervision to do that.
I have tried antifungals, the die off is hell! and anti candida diets , low carb, vegan, many times over the years. The candida has always returned. Your right hey are tough to kill!
I bought some threelac, just before i decided to go raw. I will listen to my body, continue this mini fast then i will look at introducing the anifungal with raw solids when im feeling stronger. The tip about the cellulose was very useful.
Thanks for your help i appreciate it.

This may be continuing way off the subject of the meet & greet, but ....
Just returned from a class with the Boutenkos (rawfamily.com) and Victoria mentioned Prof. Roz Gruben's work from which she has surmised that candida actually comes from too much fat, not from too much sugar. It's explained logically and persuasively, though for details, you might want to go to Dr. Doug Graham's website:
http://www.doctorgraham.cc/
I entered "candida" into the search tool on the site and two articles popped up.
I'm struggling with this myself, so I'm really interested, also.

Indi,
I can feel you pain. I look the same way. Do not feel like do anything and sure do not feel sexy! Is the fasting helping? I will do anything at this point. I am to go out west to ski next week and if I feel this bad, I am going to cancel. I have been taking garlic for the past 2 weeks. I was told the bloating would subside but it has not. Please let me know how the fast works for you.
Thanks.

I dont have any experience with Candida, but see that a lot of people deal with this. So I thought I would share this article I was reading, on the off chance it would be helpful to anyone. Best wishes~ :)
WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT CANDIDA?
Many people mistakenly think that Candida is caused by sugary foods, or fermented foods. It has been discovered by an English professor, Rosalyn Gruben, that the real cause is fat. Some people are very sensitive to any fats, even fats coming from nuts, avocados or the best quality oils. For this reason, she recommends to go for one or two days per week without any oil, avocados, seeds, nuts, crackers or anything that has fat. That is very effective way of dealing with Candida. I know many people who completely got rid of their symptoms.
