Ok, so the kids and I and my mom are gong to Twin Falls on Friday to see Shoshone Falls. I will get pics and can't wait to see it. I have heard it is beautiful there w/ the falls.
Anyhow, my mom called me to let me know that it might just be easier to go get food to eat rather then bring our own. Meaning fast food. I have not told her that I am back on raw just yet, I wanted to get to the place I am at on my own.
I don't know why this time is different for me and why I am not telling every soul that I know what I'm doing, just a difference in me this time.
Anyhow, she said she stopped at the store and got some beef jerky for us on the way.
How do I say no to the goodies and to fast food without her wondering what is up! LOL
Plus I will be taking my own food and probably the kids food too because I don't want to tempt myself with the fast food and I don't want to spend the money for the kids at a fast food joint.
I know it isn't that big of a deal if I tell her, I just wanted people to notice this time all on their own, not because I said something.
So, what would you do? Tell her in advance that I will just be taking my kids food and then when it comes time to eat she'll realize I'm eating all raw?!
I know it's a pretty simple and pretty dumb dilema to be in, but in my head and for me right now, this is what is working for me to be and stay raw.
Thanks!
Pam

Not dumb at all :)
I would just bring my own food and not tell her ahead of time.
With so many "special diets" out there nowadways, it's funny how us raw fooders tend to worry about our way of eating, huh? :) No one ever seems to have a problem with the Zone, South Beach, Adkins, etc. Or, what about food allergies? See what I am saying?
Just pack a lot of your own food and you'll be happy you did :) Last trip I was on, I brought dates, nuts, Larabars, and some fruit. You could bring some flax crackers, sweet potato chips, and some other "snacks" too to eat with salads, etc. on the road :)
I would order salads at sit-down places and often, people at restaurants went out of their way to make me happy :)
Don't stress and try to enjoy your trip :)
Hope this helps :)
Bear hugs,
Lisa

Lisa,
Thank you so much for your encouragement! I needed to hear that!
I will be sure to take things that I will be able to enjoy in the car as well, because it's just a day trip, but still I do not want ANY room for mess ups on this trip!
Thanks!
Pam

If your kids are not on a raw diet, then let them eat whatever food she gets and bring your own. If it's fast food you can usually get a salad or at least some sliced tomatoes so you can sit down and eat something along with them. I guess I don't see it as a big deal because for pretty much the whole of my life I've been on some type of diet (and not necessarily weight loss) that was different from others. So I've just always brought along food and nobody has ever questioned it. Sometimes it helps when you break out the food to have some extra for the others.
When we lived in CA, kids associated me with baby carrots and other raw veggies. I always took them with me when we left the house. I had a small soft sided cooler that went everywhere with me. In having those with me at all times, there was never an excuse to buy junk food. If we were hungry, we ate those. So when we'd take my daughter's friends places in the car, they'd start asking for carrots as soon as we hit the road.

I always bring my own cooler everywhere we go! Last time I was so happy to see my baby spill the piece of fried chicken that my MIL gave to the baby. Of course I was soooooo mad! because I was telling her not to give her that, but she didn't care and she gave her a piece! aurgh!!!!!!!! but then the baby took that piece of junk and threw it down the floor like if it was some sort of disgusting piece of c#@$p! lol!!! well, technically it was! lol! anyways, don't be afraid to say no or maybe that the kids or yourself have developed some sort of reaction to processed or junk foods? skin problems sort of thing? hyperactivity on the kids?!? dunno! lol  :o

"Oh mom! Thank you so much for getting snacks for me and the kids! That was really thoughtful for you. I've been eating a lot more fresh fruits and vegetables these days and gosh, it is making me feel so good, so I think I'm just going to stick with some of this fresh pineapple I brought. Would you like some, it's delicious!"
:)
See, it's easy to say "no" and not offend and not disclose any information you're not feeling about comfortable sharing yet. :)

I LOVE IT! Not confrontantional, but getting it out there what I am doing w/o making it too much information! LOL
She knows all about me and the raw diet, so she will suspect something, but that's ok. I just don't want to say, wow, I'm back on it AGAIN. LOL
Thanks great idea!
