What a lovely first post eh?
I've been doing pretty good but last night I couldn't overcome the urge to eat a chicken sandwich and fries. And a chocolate shake. And it wasn't even that good. It was so dry! Blech! So not worth it! Any suggestions on what to eat that can clean things out fast?
Fortunately I'm not the type to beat myself up over such a thing and can move on and start the next day without feelings of guilt. But I can't escape the bloated feeling! It's amazing that before raw many of use walk around feeling sick but become so accustomed to it we don't realize it.
So today I had a delicious shake of frozen banana's and strawberries for breaky. I'm mostly a whole raw eater but do like a shake occasionally and will juice over-ripe fruit every once in a blue moon. I prefer to eat the whole fruit though and our fruit goes so fast that it usually doesn't have time to become over-ripe.

Here's a bit about myself:
I have always been pretty healthy. I've been a vegetarian since my teens with little slip-ups here and there (like the previously mentioned chicken sandwich) and am mostly raw vegan these days. I do however LOVE seafood so every now and then (maybe 2-3 times a year) I indulge in some of that. Mostly I eat raw. I'd say most days 95-100%. I'm not overweight but could still lose 'those last 10 pounds'. I've lost 9 on raw so far. I notice the MORE I eat when I'm all raw, the faster I lose. If I dont' eat enough my body clings to it. For me raw is more of a spiritual thing and then health is closely followed. My biggest surprise is that my ecxema goes away completely when I'm on all raw for only a week or two, but if I eat any dairy back it comes.

Oh and I LOVE raw coconuts!

We went out last night too! At least we went vegetarian. But then I wanted donuts too... once you start, it's so hard to stop! I went to bed thinking of all the other ways I could cheat. But I do NOT like feeling out-of-control like that. I am lucky that when I wake up in the morning, I am always ready to start another day fresh. If I feel yucky, I will fast until lunchtime and then have a smoothie or something light.

So I say, stick to easy-to-digest things (fruit mainly) until it clears out.

My hubby did better and ate burritos. I laugh at myself the next day when I remember that frantic panic I was in the night before, wildy looking around like an addict trying to find the closest junk food. Unfortunately the vegan dark chocolate I keep on hand for just such emergencies was gone.

well, it's after noon and all I've had is the shake so far. Starting to feel pretty good :)

Do you consider eating seafood as some of the slip-ups? because seafood is definitely not vegetarian.

As far as the bloating, what's worked for me to clean house is eating lots of fruit and actually doubling up the greens in my green smoothies. Lots of greens actually helps me quell my cravings and gets stuff moving faster.

Um, yeah thanks. I'm quite aware that seafood is not vegetarian.

Welcome, we all slip up at one time or another, I find that if I stay 100% raw, then I don't have cravings or want any cooked food.

also, I find it works BEST for me, to stay away from those places.

Smell is such a powerful sense, that If we smell a food, we often find it extremely difficult to resist it.

so, I say, stay away from anyplace that has smelly food, like Micky D's or any fast food place.

I hear you shadow--I was a vegetarian for about 7 years in my teens, gave it up for a few years but am now back in full force, eating raw vegan most of the time. However, I do occassionally eat fish (have perhaps convinced myself that raw sashimi is ok?! just kidding...but I'm a firm believer that fish ON OCCASSION is not awful...kind of just like a drop in the bucket. and maybe I'm brainwashed about the healthy fats.) And I love eggs. Haven't had the courage to try raw eggs yet though.

So, I choose to not affix labels to myself. I feel like there's ALWAYS an ethical commitment when you say "vegan" or even "vegetarian." Though I eat that way like 95% of the time, I guess I technically can't identify. If we go by labels, then I'm an aspiring raw foodist pescatarian. And who cares, anyway? There is no food police.

More and more I consider myself a "whole foodist." For example...I get to thinking, and feel like if I HAD to choose, I would rather eat organic grass-fed hormone free beef than a highly processed frozen dinner. So...we all have our own journeys.

Sounds like we think quite alike :)

No slip ups for me anymore. The last time I did that I ended up not going back to raw for over a year. No thank you!

Today you might feel guilty about eating a chicken sandwich at McDonald's.

Tomorrow you might feel guilty about eating a veggie burrito at Chipotle.

Somewhere down the line you might feel guilty about eating too many nuts.

You can't change the slip-ups, but you can change the way you feel about yourself when its over.

I suggest enjoying the moment, noting the way you feel afterward (the physical effects) and remembering it as another bump in the road on your way to great health. :)

Hey to answer your question. I try to have a day of nothing but salads & green smoothies the following day to try to flush our the yuck. This includes a 16oz glass of water with 1/2t. probiotics & 1T. ground flax mixed in. :p

Hi there, Sounds like we all had quite a night. I was invited to a friend's house for Tex-Mex. The steak on the platter smelled so good for some reason. I managed to avoid it and stay vegetarian for the night but the trifle did me in. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the homemade pound cake smothered in whipped cream pudding with fruit. So now back on track today.
