First of all I want to say how wonderfully supportive you all are. I love this board. I read more than I post but I am learning so much. Today is day 8 for me going raw. I have highs where I'm singing and then I have lows where I feel so tired. I know that's detox but my question about allergies for anyone whose suffered is how long did it take for them to go away after going raw? This is the worst time of year for me and I am miserable. It's worse in the mornings. I have so much phlegm. If I'm not eating any mucus forming foods then where does it come from? Has it been in my body for months or years and is slowly coming out? Thank you to anyone who replies.

It could be detox or it could be airborne allergens causing you trouble rather than dietary ones.

ummm allergies?? Well, I'm a witness that after a year, you can still have allergies, lol
MissLinda knows what I mean. Everything was fine until a friend sent me some wheat crackers from Aus. I thought that taking a nibble wouldnt hurt me & it was like I swallowed poison ivy. Luckily, benadryl kept me from the ER.
Does this help?
Allergies to what exactly are you speaking of? For me, hayfever kind of allergies seemed to goa way when I got dairy out of my system. Dairy always attacks your ears, nose & throat.
Luckily, for me, by the time I went Raw, I was already a vegan. So I feel the transition helped tremendously. I know others are going from a full blown Standard American Diet to 100% Raw Vegan.

I'm not sure what I'm allergic to. I pretty much live this way all year but it gets a lot worse in the Spring. I have a cat too and I'm probably allergic to her but I'd rather suffer than not have her LOL. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens in time eating raw. Thanks!

Allergy testing might help you find out what you're allergic too.

My kids and I are having serious allergy problems. So I went to Whole Foods and talked to a couple people who worked in the herb department. I have my kids on certain herbs that help their allergies IMMENSLEY!! and the mucous they have. So you can try a more natural approach.

I've been raw for a month from a SAD diet. I still have my allergies. I agree that there are two different sets of allergies at work, food and pollen. My food allergies are a lot better but my pollen allergies are still around. They are significantly better though. I rarely have to take even over the counter medicine. What helps me is taking Vitamin C.

Allergies are only a REACTION to certain stimuli, they aren't what you are actually allergic to.
sounds strange, so let me explain, my dad, and sister and me all had these terrible allergies, especially hay fever, nose ears eyes and throat always coughing, always runny, always miserable, benedryl, sinus medicine, asthma all were part of it, doctors were no help, more prescriptions, ugh.
My dad and sis had allergy testing, they were allergic to just about everything, I didn't get the tests, don't like doctors.
but I did finally go to a naturpath, when twice my throat closed up on me, and landed me in the Emergency room,
so.
When I talked to the naturpath, he explained, that I was NOT allergic to pet dander and pollen and wool clothes, I was only reacting to them, I was actually only allergic to one thing, dairy, and I had a wheat intollerance, which meant I could eat wheat, but NOT with any sugar, and I couldn't eat dairy at all,
Well, I didn't want to hear this at all, I drank milk at every meal, ate cheese like it was air, and made creamy sauces every day, I was a gourmet catering chef for crying out loud, and I couldn't eat cheese or milk or cream, or or or?
Well, I decided to white knuckle it through and found out that he was right, I could now eat anything except cheese and wheat and I had NO allergy symptoms at all, one bite of wheat, and I was craving sugar like crazy, one bite of cheese, and I had a full blown allergy attack.
well, this was in 1985, and I finally got off dairy for good 48 days ago, on off on off on off, it wasn't easy, I could go for about 2 months at a time, before the dairy monster would attack me and I'd eat some, then I felt so misserable, ugh, but never miserable enough to actually stop for longer than a couple of months.
Choices aren't always as easy as we think.
But when I do get off dairy, it is immediate, within 24 hours and I'm clear, but this last time, I have been off dairy for 48 days, and I am still having mucus and stuff in the mornings, so I am assuming it is all detoxing, but it is nothing like it used to be, before I couldn't breath or smell or see, or hear, now it is just a sniff or two in the morning, and only sometimes, I can smell from both nostrils, I can see AND hear all day long, and all night long, plus I can sleep, it is a true blessing.

Thanks Rawpriestess, your story sounds like mine. I've always loved cheese too. I think it'll just take time to get years of the wrong foods out of my body. I don't like doctors either and I've been tested before but all they want to do is put you on medications or allergy shots and I've tried Zurtec, Claritin and I can't remember what else and never got any relief. I just need to be patient and let my body cleanse which is something I've never been good at LOL. Thank you all!

Mucosa is the lining throughout your body by which mucus is secreted. This is a GOOD thing. This is the transport mechanism provided by your body to keep various tissues sweet and clean.
Dead white cells are eliminated after doing their job defending you, and that is the pus you are seeing.
'Mucus forming foods' is really a misnomer as mucus is a natural occurring substance produced by your body. It is the undigested proteins chains (being unusable in that complex state) that are acted upon by bacteria (to decompose), and thusly eliminated.
It might be more appropriated to say 'pus forming foods'.
And storage of pus (without formation of it's own containment) is not something that occurs because of the mucus producing mucosa is always on the job, though at varying times more nerve energy becomes available for bodily housecleaning chores and produces what is described as a 'crisis'. (just a spell of heightened eliminative activity) Then, even the breakdown of pustules and such can be addressed. This happens more as one gets healthier though it's always going on to a lesser degree in all.

Cornvalley, I have read about the "crisis" when you are cleansing and how you have cold like symptoms. And if this had just started after I began raw I would be happy with that process but for me it's a crisis all the time. I know we all have so much mucus every day that drains normally but mine is not normal. I have lived this way for years. One Doctor gave me a prescription for Guafenisen, not sure if I spelled it right, she said I would have to take it the rest of my life which I would never do. Now it's OTC in Mucinex. It makes me tired and I hate the thought of taking a drug every day. I blow my nose most of the day, my poor nose is raw. I'm always clearing my throat and I've always had this. If I could get rid of one thing it would be this. Thanks for your help.

I feel bad for you. Nothing seems worse than chronic sinus drainage. I don't think the diet is going to get you relief as quickly as you'd like. Either a total fast or.... well actually nothing is like a total fast. If you have the inclination, time and finances to go somewhere for a proper healing experience, I know you would clear up the allergy symptoms. And if your symptoms are from environmental sensitivities you will help facilitate a healthier response to them and not feel so debilitated. I hope you can call and ask about your situation, they will provide some helpful info for you. Take care.
