I am naturally an intravert and leaving my house (my bat cave) can be such a challenge and I have noticed that the more unhealthy I am behaving the harder it can be to be around other people--other environments. It's like being healthy and being around people are connected for me. So for the past couple of weeks I have tried to force myself out there as a way of staying healthy--usually I "hide" until I feel better--but now am just doing it anyway. What I am noticing is that even when I hate leaving my house and I absolutely don't want to at all--that once I do it I end up feeling really good. On Sundays I go to church and Monday night is yoga and whenever someone calls during the week unexpectedly I am practicing saying "yes" (instead of coming up with an excuse)--I think I'm onto a personal 'ah-ha'.

I am right there with you.
I feel so guilty for avoiding social situations.
I'm great with e-mail, hate the phone, and really don't like face-time very much.
I just like to be at home with my family.....the pressure of social interaction really stresses me. I'm not sure why - I genuinely like people and they seem to like me, I just avoid them as much as possible! However, when my self-esteem is good (almost always tied to when I feel great!) I have less trouble being social.
I have a wedding to go to on Saturday - a big one - and I'm already counting the hours in dread of it. All this dread is for the birds, especially since I dearly love the people getting married and know most of the folks who will be there.
