I've been raw for 4 months now and have noticed a HUGE difference in my body. I have more energy (only recently has that returned), sleep better, feel more alive, hair and skin look good, etc. I could probably go on and on, but I won't. However, I've noticed, especially lately, that my mood keeps going up and down all the time. One day I feel like I'm on top of the world and the next I'm very down and prone to crying because I'm just so frustrated with life and how I feel sometimes. Will this even out and get better? I'm sure it's part of the detox process, but it's rough sometimes. Today is one of my down days. I am really gassy and bloated today and constipated. :( I can't take the digestive enzymes anymore because my body can't handle the bromelin in them. They were helping so much but now I feel lousy without them. I really want to eat nuts but my body can't digest them well even with the enzymes. Any suggestions for natural enzymes (maybe individual enzymes or herbs or something) that don't contain bromelin (protease that's in most digestive enzymes also contians bromelin)? I can't seem to find any at my hfs. I've talked to one of my friends who's a dietition at the raw vegan dr I see and they both think I'm nuts for not being able to tolerate the bromelin. So, needless to say, I'm feeling a little alone here in my raw quest. Sorry this is so long and it sounds like I'm just complaining, but I don't know what to do anymore especially about my poor digestive system that doesn't seem to work very well. Any suggestions or advice would be great!

My first question is how did you know from all the enzymes in the bottle that it was specifically the bromelin that was bothering you? Can you eat pineapple without an upset stomach? (only asking because it contains bromelin and is very good for your digestion. ;) ) Another question....have you changed anything in your diet recently? Perhaps it isn't the food enzymes as much as it is a food or food combination. I'm sorry to hear that you are bloated and can't take the enzymes. I understand this feeling well...it is how I felt before enzymes. :( Perhaps you could try eating pears, beets and papaya. They naturally aid in digestion and if you have heartburn or bloating...perhaps eating some celery, parsley and the white of the watermelon rind would help you. When all else fails...I turn to ginger. :) I hope some of these foods will help you recover. (((HUGS)))

Shelshel,

I'm pretty sure it's the bromelin because I've had supplements in the past that contained bromelin and felt bad taking them and felt better once I quit. The only thing I've changed in my diet recently is limiting my nut consumption because of the gas issue. Pineapple does not seem to be a problem for me. I think it might be that the bromelin in pineapple is not as concentrated as it is in a supplement so it doen't bother me when I eat the fruit.
