I would like to tell you all that I had the best RAW, dairy/meat free cheeseburger and french fries for breakfast this morning. But I can't tell you that. :p I CAN tell you that I made Rawkinlocs' oatmeal recipe and it was SO wonderful!!!

My kids and my husband all loved it. I know it's posted somewhere out there on the forum but for those, like me, who are challenged by the search engine sometimes, here is a recap:

soak some oat groats in water overnight. In the morning, drain and rinse and put in food processor. Add a banana, apple, peach or whatever fruit you are in the mood for. I also added a little almond milk for that creamy goodness. Add some cinnamon and agave/raw honey to desired taste and a pinch or two of salt and some raisins.
Then blend until smooth or almost smooth. Stir in some chopped fruit and/or walnuts and serve.

This really, really is good. You could also place it in the dehydrator for a little bit to warm it up some. This completely takes care of those cravings for carbs that we are all familiar with.

Hey, sorry about the cheeseburger and fries joke. Just needed some light humor this morning. My hubby was in a wreck last night. He was hit from behind by a couple of illegal aliens who took off running. The police got them but we still have to pay for all damages because they didn't have insurance. Just so you know, my husband is ok but had some neck and shoulder soreness. He is heading to the chiropractor right now.

So sorry to hear about your hubby! Glad to hear he's ok! I guess it could've been worse. Thanks for posting the recipe. I wonder if this would be good, if you made it, and then dehydrated overnight, and then for morning breakfast added warm water (kinda like oatmeal?) What do you think? I like oatmeal, but not cold oatsgroats :( Looking for a sub. for good ole oatmeal.

Thanks tvillemom. I really appreciate that.

I would think you could leave it in the dehydrator overnight. Wouldn't hurt to try!
I made too much yesterday so I put it in the fridge over night. This morning I put it in the oven on the lowest temp (I don't have a dehydrator just yet) and let it heat a little bit and my husband LOVED it!!! I think you really will like it.

And a BIG thanks to Rawkinlocs for posting this in the past. I couldn't believe my kids even like it. And they don't even like oatmeal. LOL

You had me going for a minute there ChaiLife! :D

I just wanted to say I'm glad you like the recipe. That's what I used to do before I got my Marcato Grain Flaker. Now, I handroll the oatgroats and it's even MORE "oatmeal-like" and I don't have to soak it overnight! Having a bowl as I type this ;)

Now, I want you all to be aware that the oatgroats in natural food stores are allegedly "not truly raw"....so use at your own discretion!

However, Alissa does sell the "truly" raw oats on her site and they are already rolled...just soak 'em overnight in a bowl covered just to the top of the oats (more or less depending on how you like it) and the next morning, add your favorite ingredients (if you add her Virgin De Coco Coconut Oil and a little sea salt, you'd SWEAR there was butter in it!! Made it at training when I went and everyone loved it!) and enjoy!

I still use the store-bought groats 'cause I got a (semi) big family and we go through a LOT of oats and they don't give us any problems so far.

A while ago, one of our members (Pixiegreen) posted a link to a site that was getting rid of the flakers and they were going for a LOW price of $23. But that is now gone unfortunately, but I've been seeing them sold lately for $59-$65 online. Just do a Google search for Marcato Grain Flaker and you will find various sites selling it. The lowest I've seen thus far was $59 but I've seen them go as high as $90!

Yes, sometimes I do pop the bowl into the dehydrator to "warm" it up...but I like it room temp. too. If you put it into the dehydrator, it also softens up the oats a little more as well. I never liked cooked oatmeal too much because it was TOO mushy...this is perfect for me as it's not so mushy, but the longer you leave it in the dehydrator, the softer it becomes (just make sure there's enough water because it will absorb most if not all of it)

Ooooo Rawkinlocs. Now I am adding a flaker/roller to my wish list. Thanks!
Next time I'll try it with coconut oil.

I too will have to buy my oats in bulk and see how we do. My family just loved this dish so much that I have a feeling we will be having it a lot. I'm just excited to find a cereal alternative for my kids that they like. Yeah!! :D

Rawkinlocs, seriously, you should consider making a cookbook. You got some good stuff going on. :p

Do the raw oats have an oaty taste? Oatmeal is my favorite, but I hate it when it's mushy.
