Hi!!

I am soooooooooo excited!

I did it! 30 days of fasting! I am so amazed and excited! I can't believe I did it! I feel wonderful! I am very happy. :D Can you tell? :)

Just a little bit ago I had my first food in 30 days. It tasted so good! I had a few little bites of an orange and a few grapes. Then I was full. I can't believe I was full after eating so little. It was weird eating at first, but wonderful too!

Anyways I just wanted to share with you all. :p

Hi!

Thanks!

Ok, lets see. For starters I have a much greater appreciation of raw food.
Before starting this fast I had been on a 6 week SAD eating binge. Sad but true. I wanted to break my addiction to food. I really thought that if I was able to do an extended fast it would help with my SAD food cravings and the binging habit that I was fostering. Well it really did help! I knew that once I was fasting I would not be able to eat all the bad foods anymore, because it could really hurt me very badly to break a long fast with SAD food.

I wish I had chronicled my whole journey but alas, I did not. With 5 children and home remodeling it is amazing that anything got written down.
On about day 9 I started getting sick, sore throat, runny nose and freezing freezing cold. I could not get warm! I would literally sit in front of our moniter heater in long johns, flannel nightgown, terry cloth robe and a blanket wrapped around me and still not feel warm!

I ended up fasting through Easter. That was a little tough. I had to make an Easter dinner for my family including homemade cake and it smelled so good! I even put a big piece of cake in the freezer and said when I am done fasting I am going to eat that cake! But then the next day I repented and told my husband to eat it because I didn't want it after all. So really that was to most amazing thing about the fast. I was able to overcome my cravings because litterally I could not eat the food then, and now that I can eat it, I don't want it.

I went through seriously craving cooked meat and cheese and white bread and crackers, to not wanting it at all, and being so excited to eat raw food again. To me, that is the most AMAZING thing about this fast. It has completely changed my outlook on food.

Also I lost 24 pounds! Hey can't beat that right?! Best of all I feel an amazing sense of freedom and accomplishment. It really is wonderful!

Hi!

I did a juice fast for 2 days, then the Master Cleanse for 26 days, then juice (fresh OJ) for 2 more days. I also drank plenty of water. While on the MC I typically drank 8 glasses a day except when I was really feeling "hungry" and then I had 12 glasses. On the juice I just had juice for breakfast, lunch, supper and snacks with water in between.

MAMA, did I understand you right, that you went from a SAD binge, to a 30 day fast? I must admit, I've kinda been on a binge, and have been reading alot about extended fasts....I think this would help with food addiction and a candida problem I've had for 10 (or more) years! I'm really curious to hear your reply. A good friend recommended that I NOT go past 3 days for my first couple of fasts......but I want MORE! Is this a dumb idea?

How did you continue with 26 days? Like when you got cravings,,, how did you get past them? And in the 30 days how much did you spend on everything?

YES, I'm curious of the cost also. Do you feel like you spent alot more because of so much "waste"? I would like to "end" a 21 day fast on May 30....my 35th birthday. It would be my first attempt at fasting more than one day...ever!!! Is this possible?? Will I put myself through something miserable??? I guess the question is only answerable through me....I guess I just have to try. Is there something I should look for that would tell me to "QUIT" the fast??? OR should I try to perservere no matter how bad detox gets?? I guess I would just like to hear a personal testimony about the ups, and downs. Thanks.

Hello everyone!

Sorry that I have not been on for a couple days. We are always busy. I want to try to answer some of your questions though.

Yes, Wendi, I went from a SAD binge right into a 30 day fast. I realize that a lot of people would strongly discourage people from doing that but it worked for me. You have to know yourself well enough to know if that will work for you as well. As it happened I ended up going through my heavy withdrawal from meat 13 or so days into my fast when I couldn't, positively could not give into them. For me this was the best thing. Other people might find that approach a bit rough. Again, it is up to you. You know yourself better than anyone else.

Length of time. Again this is a very personal thing. I had done a 7 day fast in the past and a couple of 3-4 day fasts. For me this was not long enough. For most people the hardest time of the fast is the first few days. Once you get over that it gets easier. I did not tell a lot of people that I was doing a 30 day fast. You are bound to get many negative people trying to disuade you from doing it, and I just didn't need that kind of added stress. I told a few people who I knew would be supportive.

My mother is right now doing a fast. It is her first fast EVER! She is on day 12 right now. She is almost 53. So yes you can do a long fast for your first fast ever. She told me this morning that it has really freed her from some addictive behaviors, like eating while she talks on the phone out of boredom and eating while stressed. She is not raw, and has no intention of going raw.

Cost. Well it really was not that expensive. Since I was doing the MC for the majority of the time I did not have a lot of "waste". The most expensive thing to buy was the syrup. I ended up buying a gallon of it. Actually I spend more money when I am eating than fasting. For the fast all I had to buy was lemons, syrup and cayenne pepper. That wasn't too bad. When I juiced oranges the last few days I went through almost 3 big 8 pound bags of oranges in 2 days so I can see where that would be a little more expensive.

I hope I answered all of your questions. If you would like you could email me and I would be happy to talk more with you about it. It really was a wonderful experience and I am looking forward to doing it again.

By the way we just recently moved back to Maine from NC. We lived in Snow Camp which is just south of Burlington. Do you know where that is?

Thank you too to everyone for your kind words and well wishes! You guys are all so great and supportive!

How do you do a MC...what is it, and where do I get more info on it, alot of people here have mentioned it! Thanks for answering my questions...look forward to meeting some day!

just wondering how you finally transitioned back to foods again and how are you eating now?

Hi

I transitioned pretty much right into foods. The first day I had some grapes and juicy fruits, apples and oranges. I am still all raw. I have put on between 5-6 pounds since ending my fast. I am hoping that will come off again once my body gets used to eating again. I eat whatever raw foods I want now. The fast was a wonderful experience and I would love to do one again but I also want my body to get used to eating again. I don't want to shock my system. I still need to lose 20-30 pounds. I guess I will just wait and see what happens in the next week or so and see if I continue to gain and take it from there.

Did you get really hungry or weak? Would one be able to do a fast that long while working full time at a pretty active job?

A couple of times I got a little light headed and felt a little bit dizzy. (My husband would tell you that I was just dizzy normally ;) ). I think that you would be fine doing it while working. As you may have guessed by my online name I have 5 children. I was able to keep up with them with no problem. i'm sure you'll do great!

Wow! This is really impressive. How nice it must feel to inspire everybody on the boards while accomplishing such an amazing personal goal! Kudos to you!

I have one question for you though, I am on day 7 of a fast and have been surprised to still be eliminating even though no new food has been brought in!

On your fast did you keep eliminating? Did you have to induce them with enemas? I think this is the most vital part of a fast so I'm interested to know how you went about this during such a long period of time.

Thanks for sharing your story!!
