I Tried Alissa's Blueberry Pie Last Night... It Is Phenomenal!!! The Recipe Calls For An Almond/date Crust( I Increased These Ingredients, As I Like A Thick Crust) And The Filling Is Simply Blended Blueberries And Banana! You Stir In Another Cup Of Whole Blueberries Before Pouring It Into The Crust. I Really Did Not Think It Would Set Up, But After About 3 Hours In The Frig, It Was Very Firm And Absolutely Delicious! I Ate About 1/3 Of It Myself For Breakfast This Morning, And My Friends At Work Are Enjoying The Rest.

Luckily, I Had A Huge Supply Of Blueberries In My Freezer From The Summer- I Suppose This Could Get Expensive If You Had To Buy Them Fresh Right Now.

Hi Tennesee,

I, too, tried the blueberry pie last week. I liked it alot. It is surprising how it gels. Last night I make the same thing except I used Red Raspberries instead because I like them a little better than blueberries. It was just as good. Very easy too!

Sharon, you aren't kidding there. Have you seen the price of blueberries for a little plastic container. I about fell on the floor. I have only one blueberry bush and it produces about 10 blueberries a year! LOL!!! Not enough for me. THis spring I'll plant more bushes but until they start producing I plan to go to the Blueberry Patch and load up for the year!

Where do you get your blueberries?

Where is the blueberry patch? We go to the blueberry farm in Hohenwald. He has good prices, but I don't know if they are organic or not.

It's been a summer tradition for our family for 10 years to pick blueberries the week after the 4th of July. We go to THE BLUEBERRY PATCH which is out Manchester Hwy from M'boro. I take my boys and, together, we usually pick several gallons. Then, before the season is over, I usually find myself back at least once or twice for more. I learned early that, to properly freeze blueberries, you should not wash them immediately, but put them out on a cookie sheet and let them freeze like that before putting them into the freezer bags. That way, they are like little marbles and don't get "mushy" in the bag. Also, you can just measure out what you want from the bag each time much easier! AS you run water over the blueberries to thaw, it cleans them at the same time!

Every year, I think that I have enough to last me until the next summer, but here it is January and I'm starting to ration!!

A friend of mine found a pretty good deal on frozen blueberries at Wal Mart- about 2.00 lb for flash-frozen.

Do any of you other Tennessee girls garden?? I used to have a huge garden, and I'm inspired to do it again this summer... I'm already composting all my "raw" scraps!!

Blueberry pie! I looked up the recipe and have everything to make it first thing in the morning. It is so nice to be able to eat these nice things without gaining wt.
From these lips and not to the hips lol

I bought these tiny, I mean tiny, probably only hold 1/3 cup volume--they are 3 and 1/2'" diameter but very shallow, mini pie pans. I was thinking I could mix up the crust, and then pour in a bit of the filling for single servings. I am going to try this tonight, and I will let everyone know how it goes. I may make the crust less sweet by doing less dates though.

Yum

I use to make little strawberry pies like that for my family and freeze them. They turned out great!

Askcassyfirst,

I Just Purchased Some Tiny Pie Plates With The Same Idea In Mind. The Ones I Bought Are White, And About 1/2" Deep; I Think These Are Meant For Creme Brule'. Anyway, When I Started To Make The Crust, I Realized That These Little Guys Just Weren't Deep Enough For The Amount Of Crust I Like, Along With The Filling. I Sure Would Like To Find-i Don't Know- Like A 1/2 Size Pie Plate! The Only Ones I Cold Find, Other Than This Creme Brule' Set, Are 9" Round.

Luckily, The Blueberry Pie Is So Good, None Has Gone To Waste! However, Since I'm Doing Alot Of Experimenting With Recipes Right Now, I Sure Don't Want To Waste Alot Of Ingredients On Something I Don't Like!!

I took a pic of my mini pies. Here is a pic of one of them. I made the crust with walnuts and dates, and the filling is banana and mixed berries. They are currently setting up in the fridge. The filling tastes like smoothie! I will top them with sliced fruit, perhaps kiwi and banana.

Sharon,

Seems like I've been typing in all caps and, when it's posted, the message comes out with only the first letter of each word in caps!! Strange!

Is this better???

That looks so delicious, what a nice treat! askcassyfirst that picture is enticing. I actually have some blueberries and rasberries in the fridge, I was wondering what to do with them.

I like the small pies idea, help to keep my portions down ;)

OH! Gosh, I was wondering how you could accomplish doing that! Let's See If I Try To Do That Myself. It is so hard! I guess that explains it. Yes your post looks better now. This probably wasn't the place to post what I did though. Sorry About That! LOL :o

One word ....... YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!

of course I had to try this right away, it was so good it's hard to control myself.

I think the topping would make a lovely refreshing jelly type mousse all on it's own as well. Playing with this recipe will be fun.

Allison, the Blueberry Patch that TN Vegan mentioned in her post is the place to which I was referring.

Yes, Sharon, I do. We have 33 hens so we have lots of fertilizer! :D They ARE my compost bin, I just give them all of my pulp and vege and fruit scraps and they love it!

I have never made any raw desserts, but I think I might try this one out!
Has anyone made this with frozen blueberries? Should I thaw them out first, or just mix the filling while it's still frozen? Thanks! :D

I've made it with frozen blueberries and it turned out well.
I did not thaw them if I remember right (sorry, it's been a while since
I made it).

I think there is another thread if you use the SEARCH banana button
that people where talking about using frozen blueberries in it.

I made the pie - my first raw dessert ever!
The pie is pretty big, though. Now I am worried about it lasting long enough for me to finish it! I am worried because of the fresh blueberries/banana - it's kind of like keeping a smoothie in the fridge for days. For those of you who have made this - how long can I keep it in the fridge for? :D

ps: The finished product looked really good! And tasted pretty good too (like smoothie in a pie crust). I would post a pic - but I don't know how?

I think it will keep up to a week. I've never had one last more than a few days - especially if you invite some friends over! :D

My first raw dessert was a blueberry pie also! Here is one of them (not the first one though):
