Got invited to a vegan potluck with a few raw vegans attending. I just wanted to know what really goes over well at these events?

Thanks in advance! :D

I've never been to one, but I'd take a raw cake. (walnuts and organic dates ground together. one layer of that, a layer of strawberry, banana, papaya, layer of that, layer of fruit, layer of that. then blend white nuts with water, lemon juice, 3 dates, and that's the topping. then decorate with flowers or fruit.)

I'd also take my favourite dish - pasta sauce (from Shazzie's Detox Your World book) mixed with chopped mushroom and cauliflower and pine nuts.

If Alissa's ravioli didn't take so long to prepare, I'd take that. According to her, that's her most popular dish.

That just like cheesecake recipe goes extremely well with people. You can make whatever fruit topping you'd like with it.

to the first pot luck i went to i brought the date nut torte but cut up in little pieces. i am sure i brought something else but i forget what!

the second one i brought some kind of chocolate cake from "Raw foods made easy". it was simple and tasty. i also brought dehydrated apple slices and another dessert but i forget what! goodness!

i know that the hit or the second one i went to was for sure the collard wraps! we still haven't found the person who made them to get the recipe...!!

what i was also told is that sometimes, since not many people have dehydrators, dehydrated goodies are a good thing that not many people will have tasted.

one thing that a person brought both times i went was a glass pie plate full of sunflower sprouts !! i tried sprouting them that way but was not very successful... the plate was gorgeous. i suggest looking at links of raw food potlucks to get ideas too... i know that they have a link to pictures of a pot luck at www.simplyraw.ca . they organize the potlucks in ottawa and i know they have pics on there.
good luck!

I attend one (sometimes two) potluck(s) every month. Some of the things I've brought are as follows. (They all worked well, everyone liked them)

alissa's Date Nut Torte
Pecan Pie
cherry cookies
Zucchini noodles w/marinara sauce
chips and dip
gazpacho soup
corn salad, waldorf supreme salad, kale salad
potato salad
chili
pesto stuffed mushrooms
pate stuffed peppers & tomatoes

Potlucks are such fun. It's a good idea to place a card with the ingredients next to your dish.

Have a Great Time!

Pesto Mushrooms and date nute torte always go over really well. Also, anything having to do with choco/carob mousse!
Have fun!

Thanks for the great responses so far! Keep them coming please.

Dear jennplas,
I love collard green rolls. At the Certified Raw Chef class we made them with guacamole, shredded carrots, shredded zucchini and then added mushrooms and onions that were marinated in Nama Shoyu. Fabulous! Of course the beauty of this particular recipe is that you can stuff them with whatever you have in the fridge :D

Raw Blessings,
Julie

Wondeful post! I went to my first pot luck this weekend.. I brought a salad..boring I know but it had carrots, romain, dandelion greens, celery, and mung bean sprouts and lentile sprouts... The sprouts made the salad so much better. made my own dressing by just tossing stuff together... it had a half of red bell pepper, avacado, hemp oil, garlic, celery, soy sauce, ACV,salt and pepper.. think that was all...

We had a few sweet things but there was mostly salads this day.. but I had seen alot of sweet stuffs at some online and wanted something... unsweet...

but I have been looking for a Pecan Pie type for my own cravings... anyone have a good recipe?? Been craving that sweet sweet filling for some reason...

it's a little difficult to take, but I find that the banana ice cream is excellent at pot lucks, most people haven't tried it, if you can take your champion, and a bunch of frozen banana, (we usually go and freeze bananas the day before and just leave them at the host's house)
Then we take chopped nuts and dried fruits, hot fudge sauce, carmel sauce, strawberry sauce, etc, and fresh bananas and we make banana splits, it looks so gorgeous, and all.

or we take a small dehydrator and some pesto stuffed mushrooms, mini pizzas enchilada bites, egg roll bites, etc.

anything that you can make into a small serving we find is good.

but the pizza and stuffed mushrooms, enchilada bites, and banana split have been our most well received items at any pot luck raw or not.

I made the one from Alissa's book for Thanksgiving and it hit the spot.

I sure agree that the Pecan Pie recipe in Alissa's book is a hit. I've made it several times and even the SAD eaters loved it!

I posted on this thread.

I made a marijuana reference to 'pot-luck' and would like to know if this was censored/deleted.
