Hello,

I have a quite silly question but I really don't know. How do one prepare mango before eating. Should one peel it or should one eat the outer layer aswell. I've never eaten mango before I tried it a few weeks ago and couldnt really find out what of it that was made to eat and what was not.

Take the peeling off and either slice the mango off the oblong pit or just bite into it. Its' delicious.
Also great in smoothies, salads and lots of other stuff. But I prefer it all by itself.
You're going to love it!
Be sure to report back on how you liked it! :D

My FAVORITE way is thusly...

Cut out the seed by slicing around it on one side, then on the other.
Take a half and cut groves that go all the way to the skin but not through it .. make these diagonal slices that are about a half inch apart ... then slice it along the other diagonal the same way. At the end you'll have yellow diamonds of mango ...
NOW THE MAGIC PART: pop that mango inside-out! You'll now have a sort of half sphere with yellow mango diamonds popping out all over it. You can use your knife to cut them off, or just eat them like that! (You'll have a juicy chin at the end .. and that's a bonus!)

This is how I love to prepare them. Sometimes mangos are a bit stringy .. but by cutting them this way you'll never have any.

OMG, I looooooooooove mangos!!

Check the post from a few weeks back...Also note especially my post and Shivananda's which will keep you from getting contact dermatitis/poison ivy if you are not careful...

I slice it in quarters (lengthwise), then run my thumbs down the cuts and peel into four pieces.

Which fruits give the best result to combine mango with in for example an smoothie?

Tropical ones are really good with mango: banana, coconut, pineapple. My husband also likes berries. Usually we throw the fruit together with some greens for a green smoothie.

Although I love apple, I'm not sure what kind of smoothie they would be good in (unless you juice them first)...

If you want to do green smoothies, which as I mentioned before mangoes are great in, there are links on this board as well as this one here www.rawfamily.com.

Happy blending,

Here is a thread I started a few months ago titled "How do you undo a mango?". There are all sorts of interesting answers to the question. :) :)
