I'm getting SO bored with my raw food. I feel my best on organic, as I'm sure you all do, but our supply is so limited! The foods I can have organically are: romaine, spinach, herb mix, celery, tomatoes (grape, whole), cauliflower, broccoli, carrots (baby, whole), peppers, zucchini, cucumber, grapes, apples, pears, oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and kiwi. Seems like a lot, but it's boring now :( Maybe I'm just in a cleansing rut or soemthing. Does anyone have any combinations of those? Any good juice recipies out of those items? Usually I do salads of (romaine, spinach, grape tomatoes, celery, and peppers). That's about the only combo I have haha. I've been fantacizing about cooked, even though I KNOW it'll be bad for me and the taste isn't good anymore. I don't know what i want!!!

When I first read your post, I thought you said, "I'm bored WITH you guys!!" Ooops! :)
I have been experimenting with putting greens in my smoothies. I had never thought to do that before, but I like it. This morning I put some celery in my smoothie. I liked it so much I'll be putting a lot more in next time.
I also am getting a bit in a rut, but for me it is because I haven't really built up my repetiore of how to prepare it. later today I'm gonna peruse Alissa's book, and maybe Underkoffler's "Living Cuisine" for some fun ideas, and then I'm gonna prepare 'em! I know I just need to know how to take what I've got and make stuff with them. Variety is the spice of life. I know how to make almost anything out of what I have on hand ... if I cook it. I'm just a newbie at preparing it and keeping it raw!! :D
Thanks for speaking out here .. it reminds me that I should do so when I'm in a rut as well.

You could make a great fruit salad.
I am really into throwing spinach, tomatoes, onion, garlic, olive oil & a little sea salt into the food proccessor and pulse a couple times--very yummy!
If you are open to dehydrated items you could do a veggie nugget or Alissa's BBQ chicken fingers are really good! I have also made a veggie nugget mixture with carrots, cauliflower, sesame seeds, vairous spices (sure you could find a recipe online) but I spread it really thin, dehydrate, & crunch it up over top of salads--gives it a different flare.
On greenchefs.tv there is a recipe from Alissa Almost Tuna stuffed peppers--it uses sprouts instead of heavy nut mixtures--do you sprout at all--if so that is an option. Definately check out this website it is incredible--Vanessa Sherwoods recipes are also extremely good.
Here is a link to a marinade you could put over your vegetables to spice it up a bit http://www.fromsadtoraw.com/Recipes/VeggieMarinade.htm It uses mushrooms but you could omit and just throw in any veggies.
hopefully that helps a little...I'm sure more will come

Dreamraw,
- I'd make some pate' (like mock salmon or something) and fill tomatoes or lettuce leaves with it
- Do some angel hair pasta or something with the zucchini and make either marinara sauce or my new favorite, Carmel's Cappellin Pomodoro sauce (it's in the recipe section if you do a quickie search)
- Maybe make that broccoli and cheese recipe with your broccoli or marinate it in olive oil and a little coconut butter and sea salt for a "buttery"/steamed broccoli
- Get some raw nori sheets and make some "rice" with the cauliflower and some other veggies for nori rolls
- The fruit I'd probably just eat whole
- make a carrot slaw or carrot-raisin salad with some of those carrots and celery
What uncook books do you own? I'm sure there are a lot more things you can do with the ingredients you have on hand. Are you only doing strictly whole fruits and veggies or are you willing to do recipes and do you have any condiments like coconut oil, nama shoyu, etc. to use along with what you named?

I can't imagine being board on raw foods.
Okay, so you say you are making salads every day, NO WONDER YOU ARE BORED.
how about some Pad Thai or Pesto stuffed mushrooms or marinara sauce on zucchini noodles, or the raviolie, or or or,
do you have Alissa's book? and DVD? you really need to get some variety in there in terms of taste, how about almond milk? and milk shakes, and Ice creams and snack type spiced nuts, and honey almonds? and pickled veggies, and fermented veggies and and and.
Okay, I am on a tangent here, but PLEASE look at the recipe section here, THEN tell me you are bored.
there are so many wonderful things to eat. yummy.
good luck YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I forgot to add I can't have nuts or seeds right now because I'm allergic to them (though I THINK I can have cashews now, but sparingly). So that means a lot or recipies are out for right now. :(

Start building a recipe file of the meals you like, then you'll have tons to choose from! Several of the recipes use no seeds or nuts or very little. The one's who use very little you can omit them or use something else.
Two of my favorites so far are the zucchini w/ raw marinara and the stuffed portebellas. I am not a fan of avacado so for the second one, I am experimenting with different fillings. I also like stir non-fries and adore wraps (so many to choose from).
I will be experimenting with the Nori Rolls later.
Everyone is different, (see the dorian thread, lol) so experiment and find the recipes you simply love!

If I only ate salads I would be eating cooked take-away every night!
Personally, I do buy organic and inorganic food depending on availability. Sure organic is better, but I think it is worth having variety. Also, I couldn't live without banana's and I find that they are tough to find in my local stores.
I eat a lot of fruit, some leafy greens which I usually add to my smoothies, I have a chocolate/coffee milkshake which I have almost daily (I use nuts, but it isn't absolutely necessary, I also enjoy Alissa's marinara sauce on zuchinni strips (potatoe peeler) which is savory, but doesn't need any nuts. You could make Alissa's pizza cutting out the cheese part of the recipe.
I have a smoothie for breakfast which has banana, strawberries, blueberries etc. + a handful of mild tasting leafy greens.
You could try any combo of grapes, apples, pears, oranges, grapefruit, and kiwi. If you add a cup of ice to it then it will come out like a milkshake (very refreshing) + a handful of mild tasting leafy greens.
Looking at your list, I wonder where you are getting your fat from. You don't have nuts, but you also do not have avocado on your list. Could it be that your body is just calling out for some fat in your diet? Just a thought.
Good luck,
J

Yea, that's probably part of the problem. Thing is, my body is SO overloaded and sensaitve that I react to almost everything, literally. I react to non organic, but also organic avocado (but not as much), and other things (starting to react to tomatoes and oranges I believe :( ). One of my reactions is edema all over my body, so...not fun. I just need to clean me out some how and maybe that's my way of my body trying to tell me this? I keep saying I want/need to fast, but I'm not mentally prepared (have no one to help me or support me in it). Anyway, thanks for the suggestions!

It appears there only 3 options here that only you can weigh out and decide on:
1. Stick with your current eating plan and not focus on feeling bored with your food or perhaps try and get creative with those items and come up with something you can do. Maybe you need to check with Fred Patenaude's book or perhaps Doug Graham for recipes that are low-to-no fat.
2. Eat some of the (raw) foods that you feel are giving you problems for variety's sake and allow your body to heal and work out whatever it is trying to cleanse from because I just (and this is my 'unprofessional' opinion) don't believe that you are having reactions FROM these foods, but that there is some underlying thing going on in your body/system that is fighting against the good stuff you're trying to consume and thus, the reaction - kinda like my daughter was with her eczema and citrus fruit and nuts...it wasn't those foods that was causing the problem...it was her body fighting with toxic stuff in her body and fighting against those items. When her body got cleaned out, she could eat those foods. I DID eliminate them from her diet at first like you are doing, and reintroduced them later. But I think that she would have still healed even if I had continued allowing her to eat them. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, she DID sneak oranges in sometime because she loved them so much!
3. Go back to eating cooked food - Now note that this is NOT a suggested option, but just one that you may or may not find yourself ending up doing if you don't find a way out of the food rut you're in.
Now MY question is...what will give your body the worst reaction or experience - eating a little bit of nuts/seeds/etc. maybe once or twice a week for variety's sake or eating cooked food out of boredom from eating your 'limited' diet?
It really does sound like a fast is what you probably need right about now to help speed along the healing/cleansing process...but if you say you're not mentally ready for it, not much else to do but 1 of the 3 options above and again, only YOU can decide what it's gonna be.

Have you tried sprouts? They're easy to make and the lentil sprouts are very filling. Radish sprouts have a high percentage of protein and they're nicely spicy. Coconut, nuts and pumpkin seeds are other options. I have pumpkin seeds almost every morning for breakfast.

Rawkinlocs - The last one is definitely NOT an option for me! I'll have to agree with the second one that my body is just reacting, but not really allergic to all those foods. While I was cooked I couldn't eat strawberries or pinapple without hives, but since raw I could do those again. I havn't tried nuts or seeds (except pumpkin since they weren't on my blood test list) since going raw because I'm scared I'll react and would rather try them when I don't have to go anywhere for a few days haha. That's one reason I'm trying to stick to organic is to let my body be cleanre than if I were on non and putting the pesticides in my body.
Juliebove - I have tried srpouts actually, clover I believe and they were ok, not a favorite of mine though. I can't have grains and I know that for sure, or beans, especially lentil since i AM really allergic to those (their reaction is my face getting fire engine red and extremely hot for 12 hours). It's a tough situation with me isn't it? ha

Dreamrawalz,
Hi,
I met with my raw vegan doctor last Wednesday and he gave me a brochure from BiologiqueFoods. They deliver organic and fair trade produce, foods, health items and cleaning items etc. They also work with your practitioner. You enter your practitioner number and then you can click a button that will allow your Doctor to view your order. I think it is neat. Maybe this will help those who have limited access to organic foods. Delivery area is limited though. Maybe they will expand.

Lately, I have been buying way more non-organic than organic foods, because there is not much organic variety here in Chicago at this time (at least not for the sweeter, higher calorie fruits). We buy non-organic mangos, papayas, and even grapes sometimes. Also tomatoes and a couple other things.
In the summer, we will probably be buying all local foods from the farmers market. But, for now, if you are bored, I might suggest buying something conventional for the sake of variety.
What do you think of this?

Wow, you are very limited. Ok...two salads I love :) are spinache, green cabbage, and mushroom...or...spinache, green grapes, and walnuts. There is something about the sweet juicy bit of grape with the nutty flavor...yum. Lately I have been sprinkling cayenne pepper on my food too! I love it's hot, hot, hot! flavor. :D Sort of makes me feel warm inside like cooked food would. (without the nasty tummy ache later!) I wish I had something better to offer...but I'm a bit of a newbie...this bored feeling I have experienced. However, when I did...I ate cooked and was soooooooooooo sick...I can't think of eating anything but raw. So, bored can't be an option and I have to think of ways to spice things up! :p I hope you are able to get past this rut soon. (((HUGS)))
