I just found something to do with my old or mealy apples- potpourri! My house smells like apples now. :) I also found that I can boil the skin of my oranges and it makes my house smell nice too.

how do you make the apples into potpourri? dehydrate them?

no, but I suppose you could. I just boiled it. BUT :( my husband said it didn't smell any different in the house when he came home. I thought it smelled good.

We dehydrate our orange peels and apple peals (unless we eat them) the cores, of everything, and then when they are crispy, we put them in the grinder and make powder out of them, and use them in the fire, they smell so marvelous.
We also make potpourie out of them by placing the ground up or even not ground but just dehydrated rinds and peels into muslin bags and we give them to people for the Holidays etc.
they can then just drop the bags into water on the stove, or open them and put the contents in to a fire, or whatever. they smell divine.

I generally eat the apple peel but had one last night that was a bit tough to chew so I peeled it and saved it and added it to my green smoothie this morning. I hate to waste food.

Thank you R.P. That's a good idea!
I'm trying to find ways not to waste so much. Would mango skins taste good? We live in an apartment and our landlords are very meticulous about their property, so a compost isn't really possible. (Did I mention I don't think they like me???) So, I'm trying to find other uses for skins and rotten fruit (yum  )
Ideas are totally welcome!!

A friend had a 50th birthday recently and guess what I gave her for a present. A composter.
