Ever since going raw (very recent transition), I am eating about a bag of dates a day! Otherwise, I'm getting plenty of greens, etc., but I crave sugar and to stay raw, I eat dates. This is going to mess up my weight loss, isn't it? What can I do to battle thru this addiction!? What do you do when craving sugar? IS this just part of the transition process?

Drink Green Smoothies and eat Bananas when you do have a craving. Guaranteed the Green Smoothies will cure your cravings!

Often a craving for sugar means your body is craving calcium. (calcium is sweet)
Make sesame milk every day and drink at least 4 cups. More if you want. Add dates to it to make it sweet if you want - you'll find that as the days go by you'll make it less and less sweet and eventually you'll prefer it plain.

And yes green smoothies help with every kind of addiction and they're another source of calcium.

I really like dried fruits. I still have to investigate if the ones I buy are raw but I want to start making my own. Dried blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are so sweet they are like candy to me!

Fresh pineapple usually works for me.

Try cutting up a banana and drizzling it with a tsp. of raw honey and topping it with a dash of cinnamon. That really works!

I find that if I don't eat enough sweet fruits then I crave other foods like sugar and fats.

So bananas are usually my saving grace or right now it is mangos. I love mangos.

I buy organic medjoul dates in Tesco that are not dehydrated and 2 of them will satisfy any sweet craving (which is just as well because there are only about 12 in the pack and it costs between €2 and €3). It is expensive but then it is cheeper than the chocolate bar that would be another person's choice.

I eat alot of fruit, and I drink an almond milkshake most days, it has 2 or 3 dates in it, but I did hear about the sesame seed milk, I personally just toss some sesame seeds on my salads and it cuts my sweet cravigns, especially nice if you have a sald with fruit, like orange or banana or coconut or pineapple or all of the above. YUMMY

I would just keep eating the dates if you want them. Even if its a bag a day (if you can afford it). They are good for you. Better than a bag of french fries or a cheeseburger or whatever.

Wheat grass has been said to be a great source of calcium too. Maybe make yourself drink some before you have your sweets.
Sometimes I feel left out when I go places and everyone is having dessert, so I make myself something: in a food processor put 1 avocado, 1 banana, 1 tbls raw carob powder, some raw honey or raw agave (but not a lot), and then water it until it looks like pudding. It's not phenominal, but it fills me up and tricks me into thinking I've just had a lot of dessert!! Then I don't feel the need to eat any more sweets. Hope this helps. :)

I drink water immediately first and then wait to see if I am really hungry for something sweet. If yes, then I grab an apple :)
