View Full Version : Perhaps a silly question but....

Ok I just bought a box of dates. All it says anywhere on the box is Fresh Dates and what I assume to be the brand, Hafez. They are Iranian. All I know is they are not medjools and they are not degleet noor - those being the only two types I have seen labelled.

Do I need to peel them??? :o I don't know.
I ate one with the skin on, and it's loose and papery almost, and it peels off so easily I though oh, I better peel the next one. It's a bit sticky but easy enough.

I guess it's just a preference thing? Maybe peeling them is better because they are not organic so I may be avoiding any sprays or other germies on the outer skin?

Otherwise, wow they sure taste delicious! I thought medjools were my favourite date, well compared to those other degleet noor ones, but these are by FAR superior!

Are there other varieties I'm missing out on?!

Hi,

There are several varietys of dates but only a few avaliable here in the USA. It sounds like a typical date and does not have to be peeled but i'm sorry I can't help you identify the variety. Perhaps hop onto a date web site, www.thedatepeople.com maybe you can find more information there or e-mail them ?

Take care.

Don't peel your dates.
You CAN soak them, though, and they're very soft and nice soaked.

Sadly, "The Date People" do not have a website, and this link is un-date related
:(

Edited to add that my views have changed about this company so I'm deleting it.

i agree, the date people are a wonderful resource!
jordann, i also have those dates from iran -- they are soft and scrumptious and too darn good to be worried about the details ( though i'm normally a stickler for organic)!! enjoy :)
many blessings,
