Hi!

I would love to participate in a 5k. How would I go about finding out when and where these events might be held?
Also how many miles is that?
Thanks!

Try coolrunning.com; I'll let you know if I can think of other sites applicable to Maine. A 5K is about 3.1 miles I believe? (I should know this...I've run enough of them!)

Nashville uses Active.com. Possibly they have a search engine.

I did a google search for running clubs in Maine, here's the results

http://www.google.com/search?hs=jJZ&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=running+club%2C+maine&btnG=Search

For instance if you go to the "Maine Track Club" site, you'll see they have a race schedule up. Usually, after you participate in one, you'll get on everyone's mailing list, and you'll never have to look far for a race again!

Have fun! Even though I'm not fast, I really enjoy racing! I've done a 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles) so far this year, have a 10K coming up on Saturday (6.2 miles) and am planing on participating in a total of 15 races this season, from 5K's to a full marathon, just because it's so darn much fun! Oh, and my 15 year old daughter runs them all with me too, although I finish a little behind her :) But having her there certainly adds to it!

Heh, I've been wondering the same thing too lately. I recently ran my first 5K and will be running another one at the end of May. I'd like to run more, but don't know where to look. :) I'll check out the cool running website. Thanks!

And a 5K race is 3.1 miles.

Wow you guys are so great, Thank you sooooo much!!!
Is it ok to walk/jog/run in these things? I am not much of a runner (but I can walk pretty fast). I actually get very self conscious running. I have seen too many women who are a bit heavy up top running, and I don't want to look like that, if that makes any sense at all!
Thanks again for all your help. I will check out that website.

It depends on the specific race, but I don't imagine that it's usually a problem to walk if you're not comfortable running. A better solution would probably be to just invest in a really good bra. I'm quite busty myself and having a good bra makes a WORLD of difference. I can run, jump, whatever and it doesn't hurt or look weird.

hello, go to www.active.com. They have everything under the sun, running, cycling, etc. Find the running thread, type in a zipcode and you're there.

For sanctioned races go to USATF.org
there is a search option that will allow you to find races by location, distance, age group etc...

Also google 5K fun runs
Check the American Heart, MArch of Dimes, cancer Society etc... type websites.

Good luck!
