Hello
I have been raw for a year now. :)
Until I found out that the Maranatha Nut Butters aren't really raw. I have been using that brand of almond butter for this entire year. I feel so unhappy right now.
Here I thought that I was doing 100 percent and now look, I found out their nut butters arn't raw. Now, I have to start all over again.
A look on the bright side is this. At least everything else I ate has been raw ( except for the cashews).
So, maybe i can't say I have been raw for a year. So, I can't celebrate that and really have it mean anything, right?

Crystal-jade,
1 year raw is a very admirable feat...Please do not minimize your success over the possiblity of unknowingly/unwillingly consuming possibly un-raw nut butter. I think that's kind of like letting the scale determine how you feel about yourself. IMHO you should feel absolutely proud of yourself!!! In fact, I am proud of you!!!
Would you please share some of your favorite recipes and valuable lessons learned? I am sure that you have a wealth of wisdom to share...
Kudos and blessings to you,
EC

Why would you say you haven't been raw? Well, before I get to fussin', CONGRATS on being raw for ONE YEAR!!! YAAAAYYY!!! :D :D :D
Now, why would you say you haven't been raw? You HAVE been raw!! So what if the cashews or the nut butter didn't fit a standard of being "truly" raw...it was raw to YOU when you ate it and you didn't know...you thought it was raw - so there!
Besides, the "definition" that most give for being considered raw or a raw fooder is that at least 70% of your diet is raw foods and the other percentage is of course, healthy, whole foods and not McDonald's or Hershey bars! ;)
But I would not discredit myself or this time of celebration over those two items if it were me darlin'. So give yourself a big ole hug and CELEBRATE because you did it!!

EC and Rawkinlocs~ thanks :) however, is it really that simple, REALLY ? Wow. Tee hee and a pat on my back, I suppose.
Still feel like I was betrayed by the cooked nut butter and cashewes. Makes me wonder if anything else I have eaten had been secretely heated but labeled "raw".
So, should I really celebrate? O.K. that sounds good because at least it was raw to me, as you said, Rawkinlocks. thank you for being pround of me, you two! {{{hugs}}}
EC, to stay raw I used self talk alot. Mostly apples and nuts and seeds with plenty of fresh, organically grown leafy greens were my delicious staples. Occasionallly, I would whip up some Borsch which was a magnificant delicious staple when craving someting soupy, and garden crackers fresh from the dehydrator with a nice organic green leaf salad. For dessert, a simple torte or just some dates were sufficent and delicious.

Crystl, honey, think of it this way...UNLESS you are ready to eat totally from the tree...NO nama shoyu, NO spices, NO agave, NO packaged nuts or bulk nuts...only in-shell that you pick from a tree yourself...there is always the possibility that something was heated beyond the standard 112-115 degrees but does that really make you any less raw? Does it make you FEEL any less raw? You really have to pick and choose your battles and if you try to find and nitpick every little thing to make sure it's truly raw, you'd go crazy!
So, until you're ready to totally mono-eat and eat only what you've picked yourself or what you've grown yourself or what you've gone directly to the farmer to get...then don't sweat it...you're still raw baby! It really IS that simple! :)

Happy Anniversary!
1 year of making the best possible choices you could for yourself. You should be very proud! Acknowledge and celebrate all the moments you mastered and the gifts you have bestowed on yourself, body, mind and soul the past year and look forward with delight to the year ahead!
Yeah you!!
(and it is that simple..as simple as you allow it to be!)
Cheers~

Until I found out that the Maranatha Nut Butters aren't really raw.
Firstly...congradulations! You done good.
But the ? is how did you come to the info about nut butter. I'm kinda out of the loop with the nut butter manufacturing. Either I eat whole nuts or make a powder with an electric seed grinder.
I know a machine will heat up making large amounts but to actually harm it's basically raw status seems unlikely to me. Did it not taste raw? I would think after the initial detox to your senses it would be more obvious to you.
Please someone elucidate.
Thanks.

Hey Cornvalley,
I emailed Maranatha directly months ago and they did confirm that their proessing levels were high to keep the cost down and meet the demands.

EC, Rawkinlocks,Misslinda,phoenix,rawfigure,sweet Goddess,cornvalley,Mandarin honey,Raw Priestess,~ Thank you ALL ! :)
Rawkinlocks, OK! Its a done deal...I am STILL raw, yippie!
Phoenix, Thank you for asking :). Well, here is what has happened within this year for me (this list is not all-inclusive by any means. As I ponder this question, I will come up with more things, I am sure.
1. I lost fat. Lots of fat. almost 60 plus pounds of it ! whoooo hooooo!
2. My feet and legs are no longer numb/painful/tingly. They are completely
normal now.
3. I've gotten more confidence in myself.
4. In situations that used to cause me great upsetment, are now just another
one of life's challenges to be overcome, not letting the challenge take
me in other words. Life is easier to bear and to cope.
5. I am more spiritually in tune with things, if that makes sense, lol.
6. No longer am I afraid of sickness, as I know that it will just be detox.
7. Life seems friendlier. I am happier, more optimistic. And can keep my
thermometer in my own living room and not worry what others think!
8. I have found the truth, and it's set me free! :)
9. There is more to life then S.A.D ness. Lots more.
10. Eating raw food is liberating because what can be easier then picking
up an apple and eating it? Or, enjoying a delicious, fresh green salad?
11. My blood pressure was 179/88. Now it is 120/80.
12. I had systemic Candida. Now it is completely gone. Whooo hoooo again!
Hummm, let me think on this....
Cornvalley,
I called the company. That's how I found out.
About the taste difference, yes, it did taste different, but I just assumed
that it was really really raw anyway, and maybe they used a different
variety of almonds then I used to make it with. It's funny, I did have a
heavy feeling after eating it, though.
Raw Priestess, I am celebrating by just loving myself and reading and sharing on this board with you all! This is how I am celebrating :).
