i have been raw for about 11 weeks now and in that time have had a couple mild detox episodes, but nothing like this..

Since the time change, weekly Ultimate Frisbee is happening for me again on Monday nights. I love Ultimate Frisbee. If you don't know what it is, it's a cross between football and soccer, using a frisbee as the ball. Lots of constant sprinting and cutting and running. I have been looking forward to Ultimate season since going raw, knowing that I'll be keeping up better with all the fit college kids, thanks to the weight loss, improved cardio etc that the raw diet has afforded me.

So far in my two outtings onto the field, I have been dissappointed. It seems that I haven't been recovering very well from my other weekly exercisings, and I find my legs weak and sore when I am out there.. But that's another story.

Last night I went and played (for 2 solid hours), even though I was feeling a bit under the weather. My family has been fighting a lingering cold for a few weeks. I didnt think I was going to get it, as good and strong as I have been feeling, but it started to catch in me with some sore throat and then some mild congestion in the lungs. I decided to play through it anyway. On my way home, I felt light headed and just generally warped. By around 10pm, I had an awful awful headache that felt like a dehydration issue. I slowly drank about 2/3 of a gallon of water while hanging with the wife, but didnt feel any better and also didnt want to take anything, so I went to bed. I couldnt fall asleep for hours and lay there in headache-ville. I woke up in the night sweating with my head still pounding, and noticed that some dizziness had developed too. In the morning and all day today my head has been pounding and if I shift my head I get really dizzy. Interestingly, the lung congestion is almost completely gone. Starting this morning also, I have had more detox type bowel movements (sparing you the details).

Do you think the exercise, which was for me very vigorous triggered a detox? Is this common? Is dizziness a detox symptom? I have felt this kind of dizziness before with sinus infections, but it doesnt feel like I have one..

Thanks,

Todd

I believe it can. You are putting new stresses on the body. You dehydrate from activity for sure and te increased blood flow, heart rate, sweating must push some things along. I don't have a clinical answer but I think that is what you experienced. When you feel better I would continue the exercise. Drink plenty of water before and after to help the body recover.

that makes sense.. it stopped feeling like a detox after eating some denser food for dinner. The headache went away but I still have the dizzy spells when I shift positions, so I think it's just sinus congestion. I know I should fast but I just don't want to right now, even though I can feel that my body would appreciate it..

I am new to raw and thought doing the Hallejulah Acres diet because you eat 15% cooked food at end of day-has anyone tried it for weight loss? Did you go through extreme detox-headaches, etc? Any replies appreciated. I have an extremely hard job and cannot have severe headaches-I thought 15% cooked would offset this.

TP:

I most definitely think that sudden hard exercise can trigger detox. I learned this while training for my first marathon. All of my shorter runs left me feeling fine, but when I did my longer runs (which were at least 10 miles or more longer than the short runs) I would feel nauseous after the run for the rest of the day. Then when I ran the actual race, I was fine for a few days, then became sick with what felt like the usual detox symptoms. Putting physical stress on your body like that stirs up the toxins and forces them out of hiding. I think what you are feeling is typical. My advice for you is to REST next time you are not feeling 100%. Don't go out and do intense exercise when you are not feeling well. An easy walk or some easy yoga might be fine, but give your body the rest it needs when it's not feeling well.

absolutely, toxins are stored in our body fat, and in our lungs, and in our mucus membranes and under our first layer of skin,

when we move, we move our lymph, (in fact that is the only way lymph moves through our systems) and you know what lymph does? it removes the toxins in our bodies to go out of our bodies, and the very fastest way to move toxins out is through sweat, our nose, our breath and our digestive system, hense the bowel issues

the most important thing to remember about detoxing, is that it happens over a period of time, and that rinsing our bodies in warm water to remove the toxins on our skin really helps, drinking lots of water helps us to eliminate faster, and allows the toxins to be removed from our bodies also.

if you are having headaches, they certainly aren't pleasant, but they are telling you that you have done enough now, you need to rest so you can heal.

this is our body's infinite intelligence, we don't feel so well, we lay down, or sit down and our body begins to heal.

So, follow what your body tels you to do, lots of water, warm showers, rinse off those toxins, allow your body to rest, sweat, rinse, drink water, rest rest rest.

hope you feel better soon.

yeah this all makes sense.. I coincidentally exercised extra hard yesterday (flag football) and woke up this morning with some more of that mild congestion/dizziness going on. This is after not dealing with any detox symptoms since this last episode mentioned above almost a month ago.. good riddens! :D
