Veganism is truly kicking ass at the moment.
Just to think- Donald Watson co-coined that word in 1944 to sum up a diet that was proposterous to most. Imagine how people reacted during that time! No meat was one thing, but no dairy? Shocking!
Now, 2006 I finally saw something that made me realise we were winning. It was kind of a silly thing, but it still had substance!
In Waitrose supermarket, they were selling a 'Simpsons' easter egg... but Vegan! Vegan was written in big letters and it came with vegan fruity jelly sweets. There were about 10 other vegan eggs, but the blatant 'vegan' text made that one stand out the most.
Their 'special diet' section has pretty much everything vegan you can think of. Tescos are now printing 'vegetarian AND vegan' on applicable products. More and more vegan products are being stocked. Animal-free lifestyles are becoming more accepted and vegetarian/vegan options are a given when it comes to restaurants in most countries.
The days of having no choice are changing!
The awareness is out there and growing, folks! I know an ethical vegan will always overall have a greater impact that a non-ethical vegan, but the more of us there are for whatever reason- the quicker the beginning of the end is for factory farms and other evil inventions.
Hooray for animal-free diets :D
