is there really any manual juicer that can take on the task of things like carrots? i've become pretty dependent on my solostar, but am going to ireland for the summer and hate to drag that 10-12 pound base over with me. SoloStar has put out the EZ manual juicer and u can buy just the manual base to be compatible with your other solostar parts, and it says it juices greens and veggies, but when i called tribest, the CSR i got (who was not particularly helpful...) said that she has used it for wheatgrass and greens and thats really what its meant for (despite the fact that its advertised as for veggies?). when i asked her about carrots she said it would crush them but not do a good job extracting the juice from the pulp. i dont really understand why because it seems that if its the same juicer parts, shouldnt it do the same job? argh.

In any case, does anyone have any other suggestions? i could just buy the manual adaptor and see how it works, but i dont really want to waste the 60 bucks.... or has anyone used this juicer?

Im looking for something that can juice carrots because thats the only veggie I can be certain of getting a reliable organic supply of; i spent last summer in ireland as well and the variety of organic veggies and of any greens at all is pretty limited; mostly cabbage carrots potatoes onions....

Thanks for any advice--

Well, it sounds to me like it would work great, as your upper part is the part that does the juicing, so I would call again, and get a different customer service assistant and go from there.

Maybe just pick up a second hand juicer in Ireland if you're staying in one place!!

Carrots through any manual juicer are alot of work... I don't know how much you would enjoy it. It should juice to the same level, it's just hard work! That's why most only use it for wheatgrass and fruit (it's easier to do).

Cheers,
Sheryl

The Healthy Juicer does veggies. I've done beets in it to test it out. It is work for the amount you get yet it does do the trick. :p You can see the juicer on my dancingdragon site.

Maybe someone here from Ireland can assist w/ finding a good electric which you can donate or sell before leaving.
