Made my first raw apple sauce today- soo good. I chopped up a couple apples and tossed in blender with a bit of water- just enough to gett things moving. Added cinnamon and bit of agave. After it was blended, but still chunky (I LOVE the chunks) I added a few raisens on top. OH MY GOD- IT IS SO GOOD!

Yum! And it's easy enough for me to make.

What type of apples do you like best for applesauce?

I love pink ladys for sauce or just to munch! They are among my favorite foods these days. Next time though, I am thinking of using a variety- granny smith, pink lady, gala... the only apple I dislike is red delicous. :p

Here's a recipe I made up about 10 years ago or so. I haven't made it in ages as have had to cut down on fruit a lot, but going through old posts I found this and decided to share my own recipe.

Anyway, very easy and it tastes like the "real thing"! <g>

Diana's Apple Sauce

2 apples such as Ida Red, Paula or Macintosh, peeled (these types vs. the Delicious varieties)
2 Bosc pears, peeled - these are vital, this is what gives the apple sauce it's authentic texture. No other pear seems to do as well.
1 orange de-seeded, completely peeled and de-threaded if you're picky about not having a "pulpy" apple sauce. De-seeded is fine for me.

Put in blender and whirl till mixed

The orange keeps the apples from oxidizing. This is really yummy.

Let me know what you think. :)

I like to peel and core 3 apples, then dip in lemon juice and dehydrate, then take 3 fresh apples and do not peel but core, and place all in a food processor, blap up, add cinnamon, and a dash of cayenne, and if you like you can add some agave' nectar, I like this warmed, or chilled or just plain, well, I just like it, I usually put this in a walnut/date pie crust, and eat like a pie, but it is really apple sauce and is excellent.

I love raw applesauce (i just use apples and sometimes strawberries). It's so much better then the store kinda. I don't understand what the point of adding corn syrup and sugar to perfectly good applesauce. It makes the kids and parents think it's "healthy" because it's applesauce...it's fruit right? lol
