I just got David Wolfe's book Eating For Beauty. In it, he suggests a grapefruit fast. Basically, eating or drinking grapefruit juice for three days. It's suppose to have amazing results on removing excess fat and cellulite.

Has anyone done this? Any experience/advice? It sounds like a good match for me and good timing to start it.

I'm thinking about starting this in the next day.

Thanks!

p.s....I think this would be great to do before I buy my bathing suit for the summer. :)

I just got that book too and read about the grapefruit fast. I would love to do it but as I am still on prescribed meds (bloodthinners, uggg) I can't eat/drink a lot of grapefruit. Taking grapefruit greatly increases the absorption of whatever you put in behind it, therefore making it stronger. I can have some now, just can't have a lot of it and cannot take it a few hours before my medication. The fast does sound amazing though.

Wow, the results sounds nice, but I could not eat or drink grapefruit for 3 days! I can't stand grapefruit! :o

By "fast" you mean just grapefruit juice? No other juices? water?

Thanks,

Yep - only grapefruit. Like Jinjee's Orange Juice Fast too...

Taking grapefruit greatly increases the absorption of whatever you put in behind it, therefore making it stronger. Can anyone verify this or quote a source. If this is the case then I would start every meal with grapefruit as I suspect that I have an absorbtion problem.

Regarding the "fast" question. David Wolfe states that you can eat or drink only grapefruit for three days. It's really not a fast for your digestive system. It's more of a cleanse for your tissues. Also, grapefruit is the least acidic of citrus fruits so that it is mild on your stomache and on blood sugar.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Today is my 24 hour per week fast. So, I might just go straight into grapefruits later. I have minimal cellulite and fat to lose, but it is in specific areas. So I think it would be interesting to see if the grapefruit really targets the cellulite and cleanses.

I tried it... the cellulite got better, but didn't disappear... not only that but when the three days was up and now that I am eating again, the cellulite is back. It's not a lot, and I figure this is where I prob store toxins... but I don't want to store toxins there anymore!! I also skin brushed while I did this fast. But, I figure my body is just doing what it needs to do, and it will get rid of the cellulite when the time is right.

A fast with grapefruit sounds fine, but don't eat grapefruit all the time because I have a friend who actually went to the hospital doing that. She ate a grapefruit before everymeal, and the acid of the grapefruit really had negative affects on her stomach. I think it was called the grapefruit diet. It was not a good idea.

Actually, it's not that the grapefruit causes too much acid (b/c it can actually be very alkaline forming), it's that it can be extremmmely cleansing, and if one is not used to this their body can react in a negative way, i.e, try and "clean too fast."..... I did this after being about 6-7 months raw and I STILL found it very cleansing. I would drink a green juice to balance it out. Lately, I have been eating lots of grapefruit meals and have NO reactions... juicing is a little different; it's stronger to cleanse of course. It's funny... I am drinking a grapefruit/orange smoothie right now hahaha...

Nothing wrong with a grapefruit fast, but don't do it for too many days. If you do, your tooth enamel will begin to suffer. Just something to keep in mind - a few days does not mean a few weeks! :)

Good luck, all of you.

Well, just thought I'd share that I stocked up on grapefruits and I'm giving it a try! They were on sale so I couldn't pass by the opportunity. I bought both red and white organic grapefruits. I think my plan is to mostly eat them but maybe juice them for breakfast.

I'll let you know if my body fine tunes a bit...or if it's a bust. :)

And I just completed my 24 hour juice fast so I'm breaking it with a dinner of....grapefruit.

I'd recommend rinsing your teeth with water after eating. It's suggested to wait before brushing though.

Sheryl

I should not have said "anything" rather many medications. I don't think it actually affects of food absorbtion. It has to do with how the liver processes medications and grapefruit juice. A quick google on the subject brought me to this explaination:

It is a good idea to eat some celery or lettuce after your fruit. So if you cannot brush, try that is cleanse the mouth of fruit acid.

Just thought I'd bring in a quick update. I had lots of grapefruit last night and this morning but then really wanted something heavier, so had trail mix. OH well. I haven't eaten anything since the trail mix so I'm considering starting from this morning through Friday for my 3 day grapefruit diet. I just know I'll be sick of grapefruits by the time I'm done with it! :)

Have a good day.

Good luck with your fast...after reading this thread, I may try this myself. For a long time, I could not eat grapefruits because of the medications that I was on, but now have no problem with grapefruit. I just had two yesterday and am ready to do another fast.

Looking forward to seeing your results!

I have to say that I did not continue past one day. My mouth started burning from the grapefruit. At least I think it was the grapefruit. I'll probably try it again a little later into the summer.

But enjoy.
